Jack’s Jottings is a conglomeration of things I have found helpful, interesting, beautiful or just food for thought. Jack’s my name and I am as old as the Sydney Harbour Bridge. If you don’t know how old that is, read the book, “1932 Was a Hell of a Year” by Jerald Stone, will give you a clue and some idea of what was happening in that part of our world besides my birth.
According to the Bible I am past my use by date, but I do not want to dispute any books held sacred by other people. We can find good in every thing, if we are open-minded. We do not have to entirely believe, but there will be basic things that we can agree on.If we can find this meeting point we will be more tolerant.
Over the years I have found helpful advice on living a happier and more contented life in the most unexpected places. I am not interested in changing the world, these jottings are just to remind me life is wonderful as long as I remember some important truths and have a positive attitude.
Hi Jack, I’ve nominated you for the Reader Appreciation Award.
http://denobears.wordpress.com/2012/09/21/reader-appreciation-award/
Thanks I do appreciate the nomination very encouraging.
Happy May to you, Jack! May your life continue to be satisfactory, positive and full of interesting and memorable moments! 🙂
Thank you for your kind comment. I visited your blog and found it very interesting.
Love your photos of flowers ‘specially… not so fond of the snakes, tho’!
This is such a nice introduction Jack. Thank you for visiting my blog and for leaving your comments. You are much appreciated. I shall look forward to looking around your site.
Thanks Yaz for showing intrest in my blog,
I will be cruising around your blog again.
I think it is like the sating, “Birds of a feather flock together”.
Hi Jack! You seem to be a very fun loving 80 year old. And maybe you’re living not very far from us? Peter and I live in Dapto, if you know where this is. I noticed you put some wonderful photos from the gardens of the Nan Tien Temple in one of your blogs. I did the same some time ago. I love the inscriptions you added to the photos. I was born in 1934 and Peter in 1935. So it looks like we are pretty close to you in age! Thanks for visiting me today. Cheerio, Uta.
Jack your philosophy on life and living are tops!. And I did some back tracking and found you … Glad you found me 🙂 ~Sue
It is mutual. When I like a blog I go back through the archives it is a real complement that you back tracked on my blog.
Hello Jack! Just dropped by your blog (got the notification that you liked some of my posts…thank you 🙂 ) and I really liked reading the About page…took a closer look at some of your posts and enjoyed them! Loved the photos that accompany your posts too!!

Where have I been? How could I have been enjoying all of your enjoyable posts and comments while missing your great About page? Ah well, at least I’m in good company of others who forget to check About pages. 😉 Your “according the the Bible” reference made me laugh out loud, and thankfully with modern times, like refrigeration, many of us have a longer shelf life! Thanks for all you share here Jack. Cheers to you and Pauline. Gina
I will have to go back and see what made you laugh. It has been a while since I wrote that.
Hope that is not a sign of old-timers dis-ease.:-)
😀 “According to the Bible I am past my use by date” This cracked me up! God willing I shall pass that ‘use by’ date as well! cheers, G
Thanks Gina for saving me going back as I had forgotten those lines. At my age i have forgotten more than some have learned. actually I have not forgotten it is the recall that is the problem, it is all filed some where.
Hello Jack, I am enjoying the good cheer in your jottings! My project for 2014 is to visit a positive blog every day and put together a list for reference. I’m glad to add yours for today! Cheers.
Thank you Meg for adding me to your list.
I can’t wait to look in on your blog.
What a good I dear a win win situation.
Kind regards Jack.
Jack, you are an angel ;D
Thanks for honouring me as angel.
You are a role model for your age Jack…
Count your garden by the flowers never by the leaves that fall.
Count your days by the sunny hours don’t remember clouds at all , count your nights by the stars and live your life full of love.
That is the example I would like to be, thanks for completing me.
May I ask, do you subscribe to any particular religion or recognised philosophy Jack?
Jack I know you may not do awards..Me too as from this year :-).. But I want to honour you Two anyway.. One is my Drum beat award.. Thank you for beating your Drum to the same beat as my own.. and secondly for all your lovely comments over 2014
Blessings dear Jack.. _/\_
It is so nice that you offer this award and I am honoured.
You do know me Sue and will understand why I decline your offer. There is just not enough hours in a day to do all I would like. 😍 _/\_
Jack I knew you would but I had to follow through.. 🙂 Its amazing how another declined I would much rather do as we do.. And Yes Far too many other interesting things to do in a day 🙂 _/\_
If I thought my posts were really helping people that needed help. I would devote more time to blogging.
But the few people that read my words are people that need no help they know and have read philosophy from experts on the subject.
I have learned from and enjoyed their blogs, also writing a post is a real challenge to me and a learning exercise as I had very little formal education.
I consider I was fortunate in that respect, while other children were being educated to fit in to the cogs of a capitalist society I was enjoying nature.
Barefoot in the bush with my dog Pinto my only company.
I have led a charmed life even the bad times were good.
I rave on, Sue but that is how I am an open book one can read or leave on the shelf.
That is another thing I like about blogging you have that choice. _/\_
Well said Jack.. and one would never suspect you find your blog a challenge.. You do a Wonderful Job of bringing a Top Blog to educate those who may stumble upon your posts…
I still learn from them.. 🙂 all the time. 🙂
_/\_ Blessings Sue
So nice of you to say this Sue.
I think your blessings are paying off, my life is one long summers day.
I could sing “joy to the world, joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea joy to you and me.” Three Dog Night. Version.
Hi Jack. I think this line is profoundly true: We do not have to entirely believe, but there will be basic things that we can agree on. If we can find this meeting point we will be more tolerant.
Glad to have found my way to your space.
Cheers,
Nel
Pleased you did find your way and I hope you continue comment as you noted a key.
As Obe Ben Kanobi said to Lue Skywalker “May the Force be with you.” _/\_
Thanks for your complementary comment.
You guys have a very enticing blog it is very professional, I put a like on it for that reason, it is almost to good to be true.
Nice to meet the lovely Pauline’s other half Jack 🙂
I really loved the way you introduced yourself.Your paragraph saying that :
“I am not interested in changing the world, these jottings are just to remind me life is wonderful as long as I remember some important truths and have a positive attitude.”,and the “Montage of Religions” depiction are more than influential. You have already changed the world.Btw,thanks kindly for calling in and shedding your “light” on my Epidaurus post. It’s much appreciated!Sending you Peace,Happiness & plenty of Sunshine from Greece ☀
Thank you for letting me know I am understood and appreciated. I liked your post so much I revisited it and left a comment, I know you will understand and may be smile._/\_
I feel totally overjoyed for the honour my friend.Presumably, whatever we share comes from our soul and it’s so rewarding when it finds response.I very much enjoyed your comments and of course your compiment.I’ve left a reply too.
I’ve also visited one of your recent Journeys, which I greatly enjoyed for different reasons, and I have left my humble comment. When art is combined with poetry and some glorious nature photos then,it reveals the grandeur of a blessed soul. You are an inspiring person with rich inner world _/\_
PS:I’ve adopted your magnificent symbol,hope you don’t mind.★Thank you ★
I will visit your blog some more, time is always a problem. Because I limit my time on the computer and use it mostly as a learning tool.
I am sure I will lean going back through your posts.
My partner Pauline puts all our travels in her post https://pommepal.wordpress.com/
I am pleased you have decided to use the little symbol. and I respond in the same way to you. _/\_
