A Thought.

Some one planted a Sunflower seed.

Some one planted a Sunflower seed.

A Thought.

I took the time to look into this Bromeliad.

I took the time to look into this Bromeliad.

A thought is like a seed, will this seed grow? You will have to be patient you cannot hurry the process. Are you thinking about what you are doing now or are you thinking about something in the future? To make a good garden we must plant good seeds and take care how we plant them. You know the saying about sowing seed. The saying in one form or another has been attributed to many wise men. But my mother said “Be aware, as you sow so you reap.” Perhaps one of those wise guys got it from his mother but is a woman going to get credit. We often fail to follow the advice regardless of where it came from.

This leaf reminded me of an Indian Chief.

This leaf reminded me of an Indian Chief.

Mindful is more than aware, just as hearing is not the same as listening, it is like seeing but not observing. Busy people can be unaware of the scent of Jasmine on the air they breathe; or notice the white flowers standing out like stars on the green foliage or the blue sky. Intent on being somewhere else the present of now is lost. Not consciously aware as if flying in a fog on auto pilot we are not present for nature’s presents.

Not like an Indian any more a Banksia and seed head.

Not like an Indian any more a Banksia and seed head.

Slow down let the world catch up to you.

You see more if you slow down.

You see more if you slow down.

If I am mindful my world is changed to peace and beauty. If everyone was mindful the world would become a pleasant, peaceful, paradise. There would be no more fast food or take away, we would sit down, savour our food, every tasty morsel. No more unaware gobbling our food while watching TV. Mindless eating causes over weight and bad health.

Everything is beautiful.

Everything is beautiful.

What about earning a living? Yes we would still need to work but being consciously aware we would take pride in our work. Not rushing it to get to some future want.

Some are obvious.

Some are obvious.

Problems are caused because we want to be somewhere other than in the here and now.

Some not so easily noticed.

Some not so easily noticed.

Wanting is not the same a needing. We need to be present in the now not wanting to be somewhere in the future. Missing the wonder of now we waste our life. It is the journey not the destination. When your journey is over you can say, been there done that but I still don’t know what it was all about.

All are worth spending time with.

All are worth spending time with.

The result is a shoddy job, half done giving us no sense of achievement. When we work with enthusiasm with the feeling we are doing something worthwhile. Taking the time necessary to do things properly is worthwhile. When our mind is engaged in what we are doing we are alive.

You may find some miracle of engineering.

You may find some miracle of engineering.

A thought repeated becomes a habit. Our thoughts govern our actions. Think wholesome thoughts, to do this feed the mind nourishing vitalising food. You will not find much wholesome food advertised on TV.

Hurry and you miss even the obvious.

Hurry and you miss even the obvious.

Walking .

Pauline & camera New Zealand.

Pauline & camera New Zealand.

Taking your camera for a walk is a great way to get you going, motivated to get out walking. A dog is another way. I see lots of happy dogs on my walks. They are loved and are not just kept as Guard dogs. Although some sensible ladies have a dog so they can do their jogging in secluded places in safety.

Surf Girl out to catch a wave.

Surf Girl out to catch a wave.

Looking at statistics not many get molested out jogging it is the ones that are out late partying that run the bigger risk.

Letting the world catch up.

Letting the world catch up.

Dogs enjoy exercise and thrive on love, who doesn’t? Dogs that miss out on love and exercise bark at every thing, so do humans.

Enjoy the view Mt Taronga.

Enjoy the view Mt Taronga.

Other things I see are people meditating, fishing and taking their surf board out. There are lots of things to get one percolating. Art gets Zeebra going and Zeebra’s art got Pauline going and I go back into it too. I used to use my sketching to supplement the writing in my diary when I travelled. But the digital camera made it too easy.

Catching the sun rise.

Catching the sun rise.

I have never been good at writing that is why the blog is good for me it helped improve my writing. Now having a sketch pad and pencil or a good book, not necessarily “the good book”, is a good way to fill in time while waiting. Pauline’s art is really good she sold three at the exhibition the art group put on.  Only one of mine sold I think who ever bought it probably liked the subject.

Natures pictures get a lots of people going.

Nature’s pictures get a lot of people going on Mt Maunganui.

They say you should dance like nobody is watching. Sing like no one can hear you and love like you have never been hurt, I changed the last line of that quote to, like there is no tomorrow. Well I draw like no one is going to see it except my friends. Friends always say kind things and who cares what the others say. Yet the critics can tell us where we are going wrong.

Worth the effort.

Worth the effort.

So do not get upset at criticism or annoyed when you hear a dog bark they are trying to tell us something. We should enjoy whatever we are doing it is all exercise that our body needs, now machines are doing all the heavy work and starting to do a lot of the pleasurable activity too. Technology can steel a lot of the craftsman-ship we once took pride in. Balance is needed in all we encounter.

Keeping fit the natural way, The Mount.

Keeping fit the natural way, The Mount.

I am wandering, ambling, straying off the walking path. It is human to err and not a big problem if once we realise we have been lead off the path we get back on the right path. I will never be lost because home is where I hang my hat.

Magic morning motivation.

A nice way to great the day.

A nice way to greet the day.

Wish You Were Here in Tauranga.

Through the rose garden seats views the sunrise over the harbour..

Through the rose garden to the seats with views of the sunrise over the harbour..

Up early to catch the sun rise and instead of a dog I will take my camera. Today we are driving back to Laurence’s farm at Waiuku from Jackie’s place at Tauranga. It will be a laid back, lazy car day so a morning walk will do me good.

They are planning an unsuccessful escape.

They are planning an unsuccessful escape.

The photography this morning was not spectacular but there are always surprises when in unfamiliar territory. There were people doing their boot camp fitness. They needed two coaches to motivate them. It reminded me of a scene from the movie “Cool Hand Luke”, where Paul Newman is working in a chain gang with a guard standing over them.  I could not take any more photos because of the flat camera battery.  I was getting hungry, so returned to find the others were still in bed asleep. I was locked out they could not hear the doorbell. They say problems come in threes. So at the risk of some good neighbour ringing the police I climb over the wall and knock on Pauline’s window. No police, so it looks like I may have a slight delay before the next inevitable mishap.

Pauline, Jackie and Greg with Ringo.

Greg made scrambled eggs and tomatoes, a pleasant change from our usual fruit muesli and yogurt. It was delicious Kai, that’s the Maori word for food, the Aussie word is tucker. If you want interesting history, geography and educational information hit on Pauline’s blog. You will not find much in mine.

These tourists asked the right bloke to take their photo.

These tourists asked the right bloke to take their photo.

Pauline decided to take an alternative route back. That took us via Matamata where the movie “Lord of the Rings” was made. We had previously visited the film site see it here. This time the town was our main focus. It was really pleasant, both people and the unique way they presented and displayed what they had to offer.

The box like table is made from an old wood press.

Shops in N.Z. are a work of art and the quality of N.Z. products, both factory and hand crafted, are quality. We had morning tea, actually cappuccino, with a date scone and a muffin. As usual we ate Chinese style that is we shared our cakes. That is our way of not over eating but sampling more of the tasty treats.

I liked this display, done by the shop owners daughter.

We called in to see Linda, the naturopath that gave me good advice and fixed some of my injuries. Linda was not in, well that is good if you believe things happen in threes. So we stop along the driveway to take photos of the old farm workers cottage.

Our trysting place back in March 1982.

The neighbouring farmer came over to check us out and told us Linda was in America on a business trip.

The neighbourhood watch is active out here.

Pauline chatted with the farmer about the changes on the farm since she was there, in the late 1970’s. That was when Gran and Pa ran the farm with Pauline helping out in exchange for accommodation in the farm cottage.  Pauline was working in shopping centres all around Auckland photographing babies for Milestone. A car and trailer went with the job and with no rent to pay she was saving up to do an overseas trip. Now her children had left home Laurence working and Jackie at university.

Can you guess why it was not a fast trip?

Can you guess why it was not a fast trip?

Then I got into the act, that was 33 years ago. I had a house in Hamilton and was working on Muldoon’s think big scheme. Rightly or wrongly Muldoon as Prime Minister developed N.Z. Industry, but put the country in debt doing it.

Flowers on the farm driveway. will Pauline post this photo.

Flowers on the farm driveway. will Pauline post the photo she is taking.

Those were the days. I got to know that road between Hamilton and the farm pretty well. Pauline showed me some beautiful things about farm life. It was amazing seeing cows breathing out steam in the crisp early morning light. It is no wonder she said she could never live in the city.

Sharing up our lunch.

It is still beautiful out on the farm, especially this time of year with all the dandelions, buttercups and farm feral flowers flourishing.

The road to Hamilton is still the same, all farm land. We turn off to go to Waiuku, stopping for another tasty treat at the Tree Garden Cafe and of course our camera, clicking like crazy to share our good times with you.

Anyway Pauline and I are back in NZ that is why I have not been keeping in touch with the blogging family. We are catching up with our Kiwi family. I am having a jam packed, joyous time in the most wonderful little country in the world, Australia is the most wonderful big country.

Pauline’s son needed us to mind the cat while he went on his honeymoon and I wanted to be on the right side of the Tasman Sea for the final of the world rugby cup, the Wallabies and The All Blacks. The Kiwis love their sport and are mad about the All Blacks.

A photographers paradise.

An advertising ploy was to put out a black milk bottle and a black Weetabix box featuring photos of The All Blacks team. No wonder they won with that kind of home support.

We always get VIP treatment from our Kiwi family, so we are winners also. Laurence’s farm is better than a luxury holiday retreat. This weekend we are at Jackie and Greg’s place at Tauranga and the adjacent Mt Maunganui.

This tests me every time I visit, I think I am improving.

Walking the Mount has become a traditional challenge for me. I love that walk it is a most spectacular scenic experience.

We have taken heaps of photos, done some drawing and it is one long sightseeing adventure. I have found a gym in Waiuku. I need their cross trainer to get my endorphin flowing, as my knees can’t hack the impact of running.

Another wonderful day.

Another wonderful day.

The sun is shining and I have lots of good things to do before my holiday is over. See you later.

Check Pauline’s blog for the wedding and more on our Kiwi travels.

Furry nice blanket.

Furry nice blanket.

What do you want?

She was drawing a heart on her hand.

She was drawing a heart on her hand.

I would like to weave, warm, woolly, words, into a blanket to protect and comfort you on a cold dismal day. To do more than please you, like the fleeting pleasure of youthful love. Like those wonderful shooting stars of pleasure that burnt out in our atmosphere.

They look stable and contented.

They look stable and contented.

Happiness is more stable than pleasure. Happiness is where the bubbling mountain streams combined their strengths, flowing together forming the source of a mighty river. Sharing and appreciating all that passes. Happiness is living with love.

Happy and couldn't care less what you think.

Happy and couldn’t care less what you think.

To know pleasures pass and although happiness can stay with us to the end, the end is inevitable.   This is not a morbid way to think, it is a fact and when realised, brings joy. Understanding our life is passing, we stop cling to the fleeting pleasures and share happiness and good fortune.

Sharing there joy with "Mustang Sally.

Sharing their joy with “Mustang Sally.

Loving and sharing is the key to the treasures of happiness and the joy locked in life’s treasure chest. Life’s treasures cannot be hoarded in a bank to appreciate. They must be shared to appreciate and be appreciated by everyone, to bring peace and contentment to the world.

I good way to spend the day and you don't need a lot of money.

I good way to spend the day and you don’t need a lot of money.

Wisdom is knowing as the poet said “Pleasures are like snowflakes on the river one moment white then lost forever”. Letting go and sharing brings happiness.

The closest to snow in Queensland.

The closest to snow in Queensland.

Desiring more is disastrous; wanting is the problem child that is conceived of lust. The offspring of wisdom is contentment.

This is not the Suwannee River.

This is not the Swannee River.

Wanting for nothing, ironically, is to have all we need. The struggle for more never brings lasting happiness. Luxuries and status symbols are not necessary. Understanding this promotes love, happiness and contentment. Appreciating what you have, is to be wrapped in a blanket of contentment, protected from the cold, outside world, warm in your inner world with peace of mind. You cannot control the outer world; you can control peace in your own mind.

Keep it wall in balance.

Keep it all in balance.

They all say like Superman fighting for truth and justice.

They all say like Superman fighting for truth and justice.

You need facts not fiction.

That burka could be hiding a weapon of mass destruction.

That burka could be hiding a weapon of mass destruction.

What has caused our disagreements and arguments? Our problems stem from ignorance and they continue because of ignorance. Other defilements such as wanting possessions, power and position over others also play a big part.

The indigenous people of Australian needed nothing more than to be hunter gatherers.

The indigenous people of Australian needed nothing more than to be hunter gatherers.

Primitive man was ignorant of the causes of the elements that controlled his survival. Animism was an attempt to explain, the sun and rain and all the elements affecting his survival. This gave birth to shamans and witch- doctors, clever, devious people that claimed they could communicate with the e spirits world. This gave them standing and power in the tribe.

Australian Aborigines understood nature and had no need of technology.

Australian Aborigines understood nature and had no need of technology.

This was in the time of the hunter gathers as man progressed to domesticating animals and cultivating crops he became less nomadic. Villages grew and man became more reliant on the clever ones to lead them.

They had their paradise taken over.

They had their paradise taken over.

Cities and civilisations were formed. A clever leader created gods and raised taxes to build temples and idols of their gods. Many gods were created to meet all occasions. A hierarchy of priests invented dogmas controlling the people with fearful gods. Sultans and kings consulted the priests on how to manage their people.

Tens of thousands of years is said they lived in harmony with nature.

Tens of thousands of years it is beleived they lived in harmony with nature.

Having many gods caused discord in the community, as it does to this day. Abraham united his people by giving them a vengeful jealous all powerful god that would not allow worship of other gods. Although the Jews were his chosen people they have been homeless and persecuted throughout history.

Suwon a walled city South Korea 30 km from Seoul.

Suwon a walled city South Korea 30 km from Seoul.

Strong walls were necessary to protect crops from animal invasion backed up with armies, to protect the wealth of prestigious rulers and their religious priests. Many rulers were psychopaths. All were sick some proclaiming Divine right some claiming to actually be gods. Greed ruled as it does to this day. Greed goes with ignorance, as wisdom is followed by peace and contentment.

This is not a rescue helicopter.

This is not a rescue helicopter.

Knowledge is not synonymous with wisdom, knowledge gave man bronze, iron, steel, gunpowder and the atom bomb. The technology we have today all came from knowledge. Technology allowed the powerful to invade, plunder, dominate and take control of other countries. Technology correctly used benefits man, but the ignorant abuse it. Wisdom must be practiced in the use of technology.

Modern technology terribly abused, sign in war museum Canberra.

That very brief outline of the history of man, if taken seriously and followed up by diligent research, from proven sauces, will contribute to enlightenment. Feeding the mind on nourishing wholesome food is the way to bring peace into our life. There are still foolish people that believe witch-doctors and cunning leaders. These gullible people are not evil it is what they accept without question that is evil.

We will start off cool.

We will start off cool.

Habitual walking.

Cool morning Yoga meditation on Bondi Beach.

Cool morning Yoga meditation on Bondi Beach.

Habitual walking is not as Thich Nhat Hanh, in his beautifully written book “Peace is Every Step.“ describes walking. What he describes is actually walking meditation. If you are an active person you may prefer this rather than sitting.

Some habits are not wise.

Some habits are not wise when you are not so sure-footed.

Mindful walking is a cognitive process you are conscious and aware. If we repeat anything often enough it becomes a habit. This is very useful it enables us to become skilled operators. As long as we do not get too inattentive and become prone to problems.

It could have been worse.

It could have been worse.

Habitual actions describe how we fly through life in a fog. We do not actually see where we are going we are traveling on auto pilot. Our thoughts are on some thing in the future or past, not focused on what we are doing.  Meditation teaches us how to stay focused. Those thoughtless actions are the cause of pain and suffering.

A stitch in me wastes time, but helps healing.

A stitch in me wastes time, but helps healing.

The Buddha Siddhartha Gautama said the first step on The Eight Fold Path is Understanding, next is right thinking the next that automatically follows is right actions. Then he discusses right occupation The Buddha is only interested in getting you into a good job. By good he means harmless and beneficial.

This is a good clean job, not paid for sitting down.

This is a good clean job, paid for sitting up.

You may be more interested in getting a well-paid occupation. I would also advise doing what you enjoy to earn an honest crust. Then making dough is a pleasure. People often say what line of work are you in. They used to say out on the construction site, “What’s your game, mate?” Back then, in the good old days, before tight safety regulations took the virtuosity out of it. I would say, “I am a rigger.” I loved my high position looking down on everyone. I was a young show off and got my thrills riding on the crane hook.

Climbing up steps to operate a tower crane, we used to use the hook and climb in the window.

Climbing up steps to operate a tower crane, we used to use the hook and climb in the window, in the good old days.

The young extroverts today (I dare not call then show-offs) have to hoon-around to get a buzz. Putting the public in danger and they do not get paid for it. Instead it costs them, for petrol their motorbike or car and on top of that they get fined.

The police love hoons, they are keeping them in a good exciting job.

The police love hoons, they are keeping them in a good exciting job.

Well I suppose they could say, “It is better than walking.”

I should have been walking.

I should have been walking.

The next steps to consider are right effort, right concentration and mindfulness, not to stepping off the path. It is human to be unmindful and inevitable to step off the path. When we take a wrong step it is no good placing blame or fretting. Just pick yourself up and try again. The same as you do in meditation when your mind wanders.  You can falter but never fail to try.

Passing the fields of sugar cane and the processing plant is a beautiful drive. The steam billowing from the chimney of the plant in puffy, white, swirling clouds against the clear blue sky is a fascinating sight. We parked at Murwillumbah Visitors Information Centre, this is one of the best Information Centres in Australia and they are all good. On our trip around Australia the first thing we would look for was the big blue ‘i’ leading to the local Visitors Information.

Let us have a cup of tea.

Let us have a cup of tea.

Actions speak louder than words so don’t annoy me with cross words.

The cross words found in newspapers should be our only cross words.

Crazy photos to match the post.

Crazy photos to match the post.

Cryptic ones are crazy challenges that play with words.

Watch your step.

Watch your step.

This is a cryptic post you may not follow what it is actually on about you might find it is a total waste of time. Time is the problem in places like waiting rooms, when you don’t take a book to read. But there is usually a lot of uninteresting reading matter and this may be the time you feel like having a cross word.

There is lots to watch here.

There is lots to watch here.

It is better to fritter your time away on a cross word than getting all up-tight  There should never be a cross word just an innuendo inserted in the right place. The intro is over now into the crazy crypt crossword.

Could the answer to the puzzling one across be ‘love’, no not enough letters four is not enough. Ignorance is no good, knowledge is needed to succeed. We have to know another word for love. Love is too ambiguous implying romance passion and lust. We have to be precise and know compassion. That’s it one across, compassion, if we have that right four down will be easy. Four down, is found in a doctors waiting room? Eight letters, patients that’s what’s needed.

Incredible what we do to be outstanding.

Incredible what we do to be outstanding.

This one is easy. The clue is, Dance then drink part of a cup of tea an go? Too easy Tango and they say it takes two to Tango. Yes reciprocity is a must for a congenial relationship.

Does it out do those old cathedrals.

Does it surpass those old cathedrals?

So what have we got right, no four letter words the right words are all nice . We have compassion, patience and Tango. Four down has twelve letters. It has to be perseverance, that  ties it all in.

This was built for education.

This was built for education.

Clue to twenty across, nine letters, there are two words in the clue. The last words to end of a fairy tale’. Well if you must have the last word, the fairy tale relationship is, all over, no all over is only seven letters, but it is all over if you always have the last word.

Another building in the same area.

Another building planted close by.

Fairy Tales have happy endings, happy endings has too many letters. The last words of all fairy tales, is they all lived happily ever after. That is, the last words to end a fairy tale. Ever after I can’t add an s so I am one letter short.  I Tried but I failed but I did not fail to try.
