You need facts not fiction.

What has caused our disagreements and arguments? Our problems stem from ignorance and they continue because of ignorance. Other defilements such as wanting possessions, power and position over others also play a big part.

The indigenous people of Australian needed nothing more than to be hunter gatherers.

The indigenous people of Australian needed nothing more than to be hunter gatherers.

Primitive man was ignorant of the causes of the elements that controlled his survival. Animism was an attempt to explain, the sun and rain and all the elements affecting his survival. This gave birth to shamans and witch- doctors, clever, devious people that claimed they could communicate with the e spirits world. This gave them standing and power in the tribe.

Australian Aborigines understood nature and had no need of technology.

Australian Aborigines understood nature and had no need of technology.

This was in the time of the hunter gathers as man progressed to domesticating animals and cultivating crops he became less nomadic. Villages grew and man became more reliant on the clever ones to lead them.

They had their paradise taken over.

They had their paradise taken over.

Cities and civilisations were formed. A clever leader created gods and raised taxes to build temples and idols of their gods. Many gods were created to meet all occasions. A hierarchy of priests invented dogmas controlling the people with fearful gods. Sultans and kings consulted the priests on how to manage their people.

Tens of thousands of years is said they lived in harmony with nature.

Tens of thousands of years it is beleived they lived in harmony with nature.

Having many gods caused discord in the community, as it does to this day. Abraham united his people by giving them a vengeful jealous all powerful god that would not allow worship of other gods. Although the Jews were his chosen people they have been homeless and persecuted throughout history.

Strong walls were necessary to protect crops from animal invasion backed up with armies, to protect the wealth of prestigious rulers and their religious priests. Many rulers were psychopaths. All were sick some proclaiming Divine right some claiming to actually be gods. Greed ruled as it does to this day. Greed goes with ignorance, as wisdom is followed by peace and contentment.

Knowledge is not synonymous with wisdom, knowledge gave man bronze, iron, steel, gunpowder and the atom bomb. The technology we have today all came from knowledge. Technology allowed the powerful to invade, plunder, dominate and take control of other countries. Technology correctly used benefits man, but the ignorant abuse it. Wisdom must be practiced in the use of technology.

That very brief outline of the history of man, if taken seriously and followed up by diligent research, from proven sauces, will contribute to enlightenment. Feeding the mind on nourishing wholesome food is the way to bring peace into our life. There are still foolish people that believe witch-doctors and cunning leaders. These gullible people are not evil it is what they accept without question that is evil.

More Dreams.

The Australian Aborigines speak of their ‘Dream Time’ of the serpent and creation. In the light of day their dreams were shattered, they were forced to step from hunter gathers into a modern age. In a few generations technology has advanced rapidly and everyone is finding it hard to manage the transition. Few have any understanding of how the indigenous people are struggling to cope with their crushed dreams.

The Buddha’s aim was to relieve suffering in the world. He explained the universal truth that all things are passing and subject to change.  This is the cause of dukkah, a Pali word that has no precise synonym, in English we loosely translate it as pain and suffering. The Buddha prescribed a cure for suffering by following  eight steps.

The Eightfold Path or The Middle Way is a way of moderation, a philosophy that can be practiced in conjunction with other religions.  Because of it being compatible with other beliefs the Buddha’s teachings are now associated with religions and local myths from other countries. There are many schools of Buddhism just as there are many branches and denominations of other religions. The below teaching I have outlined is fundamental to all schools of Buddhism. If you incorporate these steps with your beliefs your life will improve.

This is a self-disciplined guide, to become a better person.

Right understanding, Is understanding the true nature of life, realising all things change and cannot be clung to, is the beginning of right understanding.

Right thoughts, are kind, caring and compassionate thoughts.

Right speech, is honest, considerate and not harsh.

Right actions, are a benefit to all sentient beings.

Right livelihood, is to earn our livelihood in a decent, helpful way not a destructive way.

Right effort, is a matter of doing your best.

Right concentration, meditation is training in concentration and mind control.

Right mindfulness is to be aware of your thoughts and emotions.

These are not commandments they are a guide to self-disciplines, the goal to self-betterment, a path to peace and contentment in a troubled world. The Buddha’s philosophy became a religion after his death, as it spread to other countries their folk laws and myths were added.  Many different branches of Buddhism developed, a hierarchy debating over their differences. With all the complex religious ritual and added myths the basic path has been obscured.  The result is the basic philosophy Buddha taught, The Four Noble Truths and The Eightfold Path, is often neglected. Buddhists need to wake up.

Once a belief becomes an organised religion it is lost in a power struggle for converts.

Do not believe all you see and hear.

Do not believe all you see and hear.

Question the Source.

He repeats anything he rears.

He repeats anything he hears.

A fact is something known to be true an opinion is something said by someone it could be true or false.

Who advises the politicians at Parliament House, the White House and all the little houses.

Who advises the politicians at Parliament House, the White House and all the little houses.

An opinion is what someone thinks. It could be incorrect because they were misinformed or are deliberately lying to influence you.

Question, have they an ulterior motive? Who is this person, can they be trusted, what are their qualifications and are they in a rational state of mind?

The other side of it.

The other side of it.

Assumptions and opinions can cause stress. Stress creates strong emotions and emotions strengthen our opinions. Someone walks past me in the street without speaking. Do I think, this person does not like me? This is not a fact; the fact is ‘they walked past me.’ It could be they did not see me. Knowing the facts helps us make wise unemotional decisions. We should ascertain if it is a fact, opinion, fiction, rumour, speculation or a lie before making a decision.

Respect is not too much to ask.

Respect is not too much to ask.

It may not be a proven fact and could be an opinion.  There are verifiable opinions, expert opinions and personal opinions. A Verifiable opinion is valid. An expert opinion is made by a person that has studied the subject and is an authority. A personal opinion, what a person believes is governed by his values, beliefs and emotions. We must ask where did this statement come from, did it come from the media? Then ask who owns the media, who has vested interest in these stories? An editor earns his living doing what the person in charge wants and he will be out of a job if he goes against the boss.

What a lot of garbage.

What a lot of garbage.

We need to think seriously about this because people like Rupert Murdoch own the media; you have to be sceptical when you know his history. It is interesting reading, though he would rather you read his newspaper or watch a soap opera on TV than read up on Wikipedia. This is an outline of what you will read on Wikipedia about him.

They have made a feature of it in Canberra.

They have made a feature of it in Canberra.

He inherited News Corporation, the second largest media conglomerate. He has been accused of hacking the phones of celebrities, royalty and the public. Refer to the Leveson Enquiry. He faced police and government investigation for bribery and corruption by the British Government and US FBI. He has a history of biased political support. If you like a love story there is something for you he has had three wives. The truth is hard to ascertain when we blithely listen to comment from the media.

There have been many distortions of the truth. I was told to fear people who are now our friends and trading partners. Any source of information that uses advertising to finance its operation is to be questioned. Do not believe all you see and hear no matter where it came from. Although this is my personal opinion, as I am not on anyone’s pay-roll.  You should still question it, by searching out the facts from a reliable source.

This is a better way.

This is a better attitude.

Three of many Australian flags.

Three of many Australian flags.

Gods Own Country, Man owns nothing.

It is said first in best dressed.

It is said first in best dressed.

Dorothea Mackellar wrote the poem, My Country, while in England pining for Australia. I like this poem although I realize Australia is not my country. I do not own it I was only fortunate enough to be born here. Australia is my home no matter where I roam, I still call Australia home. We are one but we are many from all the lands on earth we come. This I really am in tune with. No one really owns anything it is all on loan. To quote, Shakespeare, All the world’s a stage and all men and women merely players on it. They have their entries and their exits. Realizing all things are passing and we are also impermanent we become less grasping and possessive.

Here's mud in your eye, Is a toast.

Here’s mud in your eye, Is a toast.

We are often blind to obvious facts. The indigenous people inhabited Australia when adventurous sea-farers claimed to have discovered a new land. Waving their flag they patriotically planted it in the earth declaring this land is ours. The hardy pioneer settlers followed clearing the land, fencing and bringing in their cattle. Polluting the aboriginal water holes and fencing their hunting grounds. My, brave adventurous pioneers, forefathers suffered the droughts and flooding rains. I admire their tenacity but in hindsight recognize their ignorance.

They called it home.

They called it home.

Jews, Christians and Muslims are still fighting over their promised lands. When will we learn possessing, hording and clinging will never bring peace? This is not in accordance with what their God advocates. I imagine all this could be blowin in the wind, if we stopped wanting, clinging and possessing. Took a deep breath of the free life-giving, air and meditated on what is truly ours to own. It is all impermanent, passing we can cling to nothing for very long.

A hard life no TV.

A hard life no TV.

It is not your country Dorothea, come back home to warmth and love. This world is home to the family of man our island home in the infinite cosmos. Everything in this world is interdependent sharing is necessity. Possessing is not a necessary requirement to enjoying something. The person that hoards riches invites crime and envy. Property comes with liabilities of storing, protecting and maintaining. When we give a kind word or a smile we see how it enhances our life. Then we can progress, giving more substantial aid to those in need.

Four horned off road transport.

Four horned off-road transport.

There is no room for pining if we are concerned in helping the less fortunate. We will not be blind to the obvious that we share this world and must consider others needs and different ways of life. Those flag waving patriotic overzealous empire builders, drew lines on maps cutting up countries and plundering the wealth, with no consideration of the original inhabitants. With disregard to others feelings they invaded lands, enforcing their language, religion and way of life on the natives. Much of the conflict in the world today is a legacy of those empire builders.

They all call Australia home.

They all call Australia home.

We need to stop being dogmatic in our beliefs and try to understand others beliefs. Misunderstanding and ignorance must be over come if we are to have peace on earth. There are no bad people they are sick or ignorant. Education is necessary to counter lack of knowledge and for people who are sick from lack of life’s necessities we need to share all we can. This is the only way to live in harmony with our fellow-man.

The reaction to force is opposing force. Wars create vengeance in the defeated and grief to the victorious as a war is never won without casualties. Man is a tear drop in an ocean of sorrow. Life is fleeting, and the sorrow is, it is too late when the bubble bursts to repentant. It is satisfying to give while you live and die in peace with no regrets. Our path through life is like a speeding bullet quickly reaching the target and the target is death. We own nothing we leave it all behind. Do not make waves as you sail through life. You cannot remain clean stirring up mud. To have no regrets leave clear water in your wake.

What is left at end of the day.

What is left at end of the day.

When waving the flag in god’s own country realise it is not yours.

This flag has a lot of history, written by the victors.

This flag has a lot of history, written by the victors.
