The Cure.

It is MADNESS but some will not see.

It is MADNESS but some will not see.

What is the cure for the stress in the fast pace modern world?

We could pray.

We could pray.

Is the detrimental effect the commercial system has on the environment causing us anxiety? Are we worrying that our protesting and complaining is futile against the multinational take over? Are we frustrated because advertising has invaded every available public space, as well as our home?

We could just drop out of the rat-race.

We could just drop out of the rat-race.

Should we just sit back and let the TV ads induce us to buy things we do not need?  Advertising plays on our ego enticing us to buy superfluous things, brand names are only superfluous status symbols. Ads keep us working at the treadmills turning the wheels of production. It is a vicious circle this tread mill, known as ‘the rat race’. How can one escape?

You may think I am full of rubbish.

You may think I am full of rubbish.

There is a way to stop this stress, it has been around for 2500 years, but The Buddha’s philosophy has been distorted. There is another easier way to escape the ‘rat race’. I could write volumes explaining this method and not do it as good as putting in a few link, for you to click on. If you are interested in taking some steps that will benefit you, the environment and the community in general, look at these links.

This is all unnecessary rubbish.

This is all unnecessary rubbish.

Books are better than passive TV watching. Most worthwhile things in life take an effort. Make the small effort to hit these links and learn what they have to say and from there to further helpful reading links.

Can you see, 'we are living in this as if there was another to go to.'

Can you see, ‘we are living on this planet as if there is another one to go to.’

We would all like to help right the wrongs in the world.

I ask myself, what am I doing, helping or hindering the problems in the world today?

I do not sign partitions or join in protests, I do write my blog, but is appealing to others going to fix anything.

I actually do nothing because this is an important concept in Taoism. What Lau Tzu calls ‘wu wei’: the action of non-action.

The words of Uncle sham.

What is for dinner?

What is for dinner?

Uncle Sam never lies; instead he invented a fertilizer and spread it all over the world garden and production flourished. USA, Us of A, us of Australia, have changed the English language, calling this type of fertilizer advertising. As in the conversation Humpty Dumpty had with Alice in. “Through the Looking Glass” by Lewis Carrolls. “When I say a word,” Humpty said in a rather scornful tone, “It means just what I choose it to mean – neither more nor less.” “The question is“said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many things.”

Pauline questions Humpty Dumpty.

Pauline questions Humpty Dumpty.

The slaughter–house was demolished and in its place the abattoir was established. The meat industry still was not happy with sales. Meat processing plant was the phrase adopted, cut short, with a sharp knife, to processing plant. Flesh covered in hair has no resemblance to meat wrapped in plastic. The rainforests in Brazil are becoming grass lands for vast cattle-stations. Livestock use up more than a quarter of the earth’s surface and contribute to polluting precious water systems.

What is for lunch.

What is for lunch.

Ronald McDonald decided to dress up as a clown and put play grounds in his fast food outlets. If we can get the kids in mum and dad will follow. Advertising invades almost every area of our garden. Our only escape is a date with Mother Nature, to meditate and gain control of our thoughts. How much fertilizer can be put on the garden before it destroys our source of nourishment, killing our garden paradise, banishing us once more from Eden? Too much of a good thing is growth without attention to sustainability. There is a difference between useful necessities and luxuries or useless trinkets. We horde and want too much and share too little.

How about that?

How about that?

TV is a habit, especially if you have been on the tread mill all day trying to keep up with the Joneses. Leaving no time to quietly meditate or think is this really a good way to live? The Joneses are not content with all their toys advertising keeps showing them a new and better version they must have. This is dynamic lifter (The trade name for chicken manure) and is being tipped in our lounge rooms via the TV. TV is the secret weapon for the effluent that is spread to the affluent. Politicians keep you in a job so you will keep them in a job. The buy-buy materialistic economy is unsustainable.

I don't want to be The Red Rooster.

I don’t want to be The Red Rooster.

Too exhausted to cook a wholesome meal, take the family to Ronald’s or to Colonel Saunders if you prefer eating dead chicken. There is no cleanup after, just dump all the superfluous packaging in the rubbish bin, if you can muster up the energy. Then home to sit back and watch TV commercials, interrupted by a frivolous show that some viewers value more than the ads. No need to think, the canned-laughter and applause from the studio audience will let you know how to react; they are shown sign boards so they know when to laugh. This is an example of the vicious tread mill where the rodents train for the rat race.

Scrap metal collector.

Scrap metal collector.

The endless growth of materialistic economics combined with the imbalanced distribution to regions where life’s needs are lacking, has caused the increase of global temperatures and hostility between people. Freedom-fighters, guerrilla armies or are they terrorists it depends on whose side you are on. Today let us not call a spade a spade that would be ruled out-of-order. Social justice must prevail. Spade and Sambo are derogatory terms for Afro-American.

Can Barak Obama clean up the mess or is he going to be blamed for the chaos left in the wake of the Bush administration.  Someone is always the fall guy. I would like to see Uncle Sambo out-wit the tiger as in the cartoon link. Those old cartoons full of racial slurs were considered harmless fun by white people. As a child I could not see how harmful and hurtful they were.

All car parts of a days work.

All car parts of a days work.

It is a war of words it takes our mind off the real issues. Words have become weapons of mass deception. Uncle Sam needs you to fight for truth and justice and the American way. Play it again Sam, you cannot have it both ways, it is either truth and justice or the American way. Ironically many Americans would agree, they have lost faith in their political system. Intent on promoting the American way in the world and neglecting the flood banks in New Orleans. Where mother Nature put on a little demonstration of her power.

Just a wave from Nature.

Just a wave from Nature.

Australia is indebted to America, in that it saved us from the Japanese invasion. Supplying us with armaments at a reasonable cost, then when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor they actually entered the war to save Australia. The war took a decided turn when Uncle Sam arrived with the cavalry. In typical Hollywood fashion they were heroes to the rescue, no vengeful motives. Japan was on her last legs when America dropped atomic bombs on two cities that ended the war days, perhaps weeks, quicker than it would have. I am not going to say it was wrong to drop those bombs or the methane bombs on Vietnam or any of the other conflicts Sam has entered into in the name of truth and justice. I do know the armaments industry is big business also the construction industry. Well-off nations are always ready to help rebuild demolished cities and they are conversely expert in demolishing them.

Think food for thought, food for all.

Think food for thought, food for all.

We are all involved in the biggest battle in history. Can America help in the fight Mother Nature has declared on the human race? I do not think we will win without the super powers contributing. The best thing we can do is surrender our materialistic way of life. Giving what is surplus to our needs to those who are ravenous for life’s necessities. Saying the words clean air, food and shelter, will not help one deprived of these necessities. You may give to charities but how much cream is skimmed off your milk of kindness.

All he needs to be happy.

All he needs to be happy.

A cliché is an overused phrase, but often true. Charity begins at home, another is if you want to change the world start with yourself. Try to live an exemplary life, I say try, as I try to follow the Buddha’s wise philosophy and I find it is very easy to step off the path he taught. With all my harsh criticism of Uncle Sam I am no doubt straying, hurting some people’s feelings. But it is the intention more than the action that governs the merit of an action. My intention is not to be hurtful they are ideas to assist people with good intentions, stop and think how can I best help the suffering in the world today. Without violently protesting or getting distressed. It is impossible to win a fight with Mother Nature, we must cooperate. Some of my ideas I hope may be a step on the path to understanding.

Jam-Packed With Goodies.

It pays to advertise.

It pays to advertise.

This jotting is jam-packed with goodies like a Christmas pudding, to be shared with all. Jesus may have soul rites but has not got sole patent rights out on peace and goodwill it should be practiced on everyone’s birthday. Now is a present we need to share in the now. Not last Christmas, or next, the past is history the future is a mystery. The most important thing you are doing is, now, the most important person is the person you are with, now. Be attentive and mindful of the present, impatiently hurrying to some future event, that may not be as anticipated, or fretting about the past, is to waste precious time. Time is irreplaceable more important than possessions.

Good Advertising.

Good Advertising.

Those that know they have enough are satisfied. Not to want is to be rich. When the glass is full stop pouring, greed is wasteful, so fill another’s glass and share the joy. Sharing is the way to peace. Selfishly, wanting and hording impermanent things, and all things are impermanent, is not the way to lasting happiness. Do not let the gold in your pockets weigh you down; traveling light is the way to enjoy your journey. Possessions come with responsibilities they need maintenance and protecting. Flaunting your affluence creates envy and promotes wrong doing. Sharing brings happiness to all. To know and not to do is still not to know.

Accept constructive criticism or you will never learn your failings. You do not need to accept unhelpful or spiteful criticism. Treat it as you would an unwanted gift and let it remain with the giver. Some comments and criticism are designed to cause trouble. A wise person does not get emotional when criticized. They do not retaliate with anger they remain calm. Anger is a fire that burns without regard to who struck the match. Angry people cannot taste the food they are eating or feel the poison in their system nor see reason. To an  angry person everything is tasteless.

Give what you can.

Give what you can.

Do not praise me for these words they are second-hand. I stand on the shoulders of giants for a better view of our world. Though, I would appreciate your comments to let me know if passing on these words has contributed to promoting some good in our world. They may be rephrased second-hand clichés; I have read so much, it is difficult for me to know. In my blog I try to condense what I have found useful. Then recycle it like pre-loved garments in a charity opportunity-shop. All things of value should be passed on; they may be of use to some needy person. I am not too concerned who donated the gift; only that it is made available for someone to benefit. Take a look, there may be some item you can use. A need is essential, a wanting is a luxury.

Atherton Red Cross Opp. Shop.

Atherton Red Cross Opp. Shop.

Buying second-hand may trouble a big ego. If you buy a new item with printed advertising promoting a company on it, you are being cheated. A person of note would be paid to be a company’s bill board. Especially if they are like most big named brands getting their product made in a sweatshop overseas. This uses precious resources on transport and causes local unemployment. Think where you’re spending your money and how many hours of your irreplaceable time you are trading. Ask yourself is it necessary and is it worth it?  The ego is vanity it can never be satisfied it must be controlled. The wise understand the ego and check in second-hand and opportunity shops when they need to buy.

Some times there are new cloths in opp.-shops.

Some times there are new cloths in opp.-shops.

Second hand shops are jam-packed with goodies. There are charity shops, they can help the buyer as well as help a good cause and the environment. There are second-hand shops run as a business, sometimes specializing, in furniture, electrical appliances, and other things. They fill a real need sometimes having things found no were else and at bargain prices. There are also curio shops and antique shops, they may be less practical but are like museums, packed with interesting things. I enjoy these shops it is surprising the wondrous things you see. There is no need to buy, just take pleasure in looking, it is not necessary to own something to enjoy its beauty.

Fear Courage Balance.

Praying mantis hitches a ride.

  Praying mantis hitches a ride.

Fear is a necessary emotion to protect us from danger. Courage allows us to overcome fear. Balance is the skill needed to act sensibly neither cowardly nor reckless. Balance is needed in every aspect of life. When things are in balance they are in perfect harmony. Nature keeps the whole universe in equilibrium. I respect nature as some people respect their god. Nature will restore the unbalance man has created in the world. Some men fear God and have no respect for nature this is reckless ignorance not courage.

The good life.

The good life.

Abrahamic religions use the fear of God to enforce laws. Fear is often used by politicians to sway public opinion. Advertising uses many methods to sell products fear is one of their tactics. Is your house so dirty it is threatening to ruin your health? Insects must be killed and the ads show how to do it. Fear needs to be balanced with caution and common-sense. What kills insects surely is not good for our health. As for germs a healthy person’s immune system can cope with most germs. Bacteria is like cholesterol there are two kinds one kind is good for you the other blocks up your circulatory system. Less than one percent of bacteria are harmful some that live in your body are essential for your health. Cleanliness is very important but advertising has some people frightened of a bit mother earth.

Kimchee Seoul street market.

Kimchee Seoul street market.

I grew up with nothing more than water from a well to drink and a bar of plain soap was used to wash with. There were only basic natural things to remedy coughs, cuts and all the usual ailments.  No flush toilets when I was a boy only what we called a dunny. We did not use chemicals unless there was a real problem. We had no air-conditioning we opened a window and had fresh air; it killed germs and toughened me up. I have survived eighty-one years and never been unduly afraid of a bit of dirt. I do not expect doctors to look after my health, it is my responsibility. I try to live a clean and balanced life without all the pills and disinfectants I do not need chemical germ and insect killers to protect me.

All we needed.

All we needed.

We tend to leave it up to bureaucrats to protect us, consequently there are too many laws supposedly to protect the public. Health regulations have gone to extremes. I have eaten food prepared and cooked at food stalls in the streets of other countries and have suffered no ill effects. Seeing the fresh food cooked one can decide if it is fit to eat. In a restaurant, even though health department requirements have been met, one still has to trust the management. These laws cut down competition from the small man and favour the big food chain operators. We have lost control over our own welfare because of imaginary fears.

Hot lunch Bangkok.

Hot lunch Bangkok.

Safety regulations have a place but they have now taken a lot of the skill, challenge and team effort out of construction work. In general work today is looked upon as making money to buy luxuries. People used to ask “What is your game?” when they wanted to know how you made a living, now it is “What is your job?” Sport has become a job. TV time and sponsoring by big business has taken the fun out of the game. We need some courage to take control and get balance back in our life.

Breakfast fresh vegetable omelette.

Breakfast fresh vegetable omelette.

I do not fear the Muslims, the Christians or the Hindus. The Islamic Jihad does not scare me as I am no threat to their religion. There may be one religious fanatic in thousands. Should we fear all the others? You have more chance of being killed by a car. Do you hate cars because of this? I do not agree with many religions or their ideas but I find wisdom in some and I do respect the ethics of the sincere followers. I try to live by the five precepts that all major religions incorporate.  There are good people everywhere there are no evil people only the ignorant or sick. We should try to teach the ignorant and show compassion and care for the sick. The incurable cases need special care.  Courage balanced with understanding instead fear is needed.

Picnic lunch with friends.

The white haired boy having a picnic lunch with friends.

We should be weighing up and concentrating on real dangers. Nature is trying to balance everything and man is only trying to balance the budget. Do not trust your health and welfare to doctors, chemists, bureaucrats or big business. Do not believe all the advertising, think for yourself and take responsibility for your own welfare. Do not let fear, greed or ignorance control you. According to Shakespeare, “Cowards die many times before their deaths, the valiant die but once”. Often rephrased as, a coward dies a thousand deaths a hero dies but once. Cowards or heroes death is inevitable so cherish all life and leave something for the next generation. All Mother Nature’s gifts are free and mans incestuous desires are unforgivable. Man’s greed is   reckless unbalancing the ecology there is nothing brave or courageous in raping mother earth.

 Clean and healthy.

A Balancing menagerie.

Beetle mainia.

Beetle mania.

The light outside the toilets attract the Black Beetles, they fly too close, crash into it and fall to the ground stunned. The Green-tree Frogs sit waiting for the beetles. As soon as the beetle recovers and moves the frog sees the movement. In an instant the beetle disappears, the end of the frog’s tongue is the end of the beetle.

I witnessed this with the frogs, beetles and Green Tree Snakes in action at Bunderbreg Qld. .

Australia Christmas beetle.

Australia Christmas beetle.

Snakes are plentiful, in the garden by the toilet, they feed on the frogs. This is nature’s way of keeping things in balance. The snakes eat the frogs, the frogs eat the beetles, and the beetles eat the garden. We need this balance as deprived of plants we would perish.

It is not easy being green.

It is not easy being green.

Everything is interdependent if one creature dies out this has an effect on the whole chain of balance. This is only one simple example of nature’s way of keeping things in balance. There are complex connections only a botanist or scientist studying the food chains in nature would be aware of.

The Green Tree Frog often seen in Queensland.

The Green Tree Frog .

Man has created many problems by interfering with natures balance. Rabbits, foxes, cats, Prickly-pear, Cane Toads even Honey Bees and many more invasive pests have been introduced into Australia.

Often in toilet bowls.

Often in Queensland toilet bowls.

Everything has been tried to eradicate rabbits, a virus causing Myxomatosis, a very inhumane way of killing them, had some success, the longest fence in the world, 1,833 km,1,139 miles, has been built to contain them, rabbits are still a pest.

He does not look wild.

He does not look wild.

Prickly pear invaded 40,000 square km of farm land till a moth was imported from South America its lava ate the Prickly pear. This is claimed to be a success in biological pest control. Drugs cure illness but have side effects and there are side effects from biological cures also.

Carpet Snake actually a python and this one is not real.

Carpet Snake actually a python and this one is not real.

The introduction of the Cane toad brought in to get rid of a beetle that was a problem to the sugar cane industry. It has spread from Queensland to Western Australia it is estimated it migrates at the rate of 140 km per year. Its poison kills any animal that eats it and it competes with native wild life for food. This has causing a decline in the numbers of native creatures.

The Honey Bee.

The Honey Bee.

How could a Honey bee affect our environment?  Many native flowers can only be pollinated by native bees and insects. The flowers are shaped to allow only special insects to spread their pollen to other flowers. Honey bees are not capable of spreading and fertilizing these flowers. The Honey bees swarm and inhabit hollows in trees, depriving the native species of a home.

Another colourful beetle I saw in west Australia.

Another colourful beetle I saw in west Australia.

Natures balance is far more complex than most people realize. In physics there is no action without a reaction. In nature there is no action without repercussions. These are laws man must heed or suffer the consequences. Nature is infinite, man is mortal we either live in harmony with nature or continue to fight her and it is obvious to anyone, that is not blinded by greed, who will win.

The Koala is in danger because of auburn sprawl.

The Koala is in danger because of auburn sprawl.

Man is like the beetle eating up natures green garden, but man destroys any controlling force. Our population explosion is like a cancer on our island planet. The laws of nature cannot be altered without adverse side effects. If natures balance is disturbed in any way nature in its infinite time will restore the balance.

While these fellows are multiplying like crazy.

While both these species are multiplying like crazy.

Do not support wasteful ways and buy only what you need, recycle things. Live peacefully, war is wasteful and investing your money in armaments of destruction is as suicidal as smoking. Nature cannot be destroyed; it changes form, as water freezes or turns to steam. The climate heating up will not destroy any thing it will only alter things. Beatles, frogs and snakes, along with man will change, breaking down into compost for other lower forms of life to feed on. One way or another everything must change. It is mans unavoidable fate so let us do our best to prolong this wonderful life as long as possible.  Man has no answer other than going with the flow of nature to the best of his ability. We cannot fight to put it right, we can only do our own individual best.

An empty case.

An empty case.

THE LAW OF

INTERDEPENDANCE.

Australian Koala Bear .

Australian Koala Bear .

It is almost impossible for me to say,

exactly what I would like to convey.

Words cannot describe the scent of Jasmine on the evening breeze.

Experience crunchy toast, and taste of melting Cheddar cheese.

The sound of waves breaking on the sand,

Sunrise or sunset these things are grand.

Listening to rain when you are lying warm and snug in bed,

These feeling are indescribable and cannot precisely be said.

There are also things in nature beyond our comprehension.

There are countless wonders too many for me to mention.

Rice growing in Korea.

Rice growing in Korea.

Nature resides in all creation.

Everything fits in its relation.

Interdependent the balance is precise.

Like the effect of the sun on melting ice.

The season’s cycles, seeds and germination.

Everything is interconnected in their relation.

The precision of planets as they journey in space,

All affect plants and animals and the human race.

Nature surpasses all mans endeavor.

Still we ignore her and think we are clever.

Feeding crocodiles in the wild.

Feeding crocodiles in the wild.

Do these words exactly express?

That nature gifts bring happiness.

Value nature do not squander appreciate.

If we do not do this it may be too late.

Will nature have to take a hand?

Because I cannot make you understand.

Green Tree Snakes mating.

Green Tree Snakes mating.

Words failed the wise to explain. Will nature’s message be the same?

In nature everything is given free, this message is for you and me.

Will we hoard everything we acquire, not what we need but all that we desire.

Nature’s message is to freely give, what you can to all that live.

We should be in tune and balance too in everything that we do.

Jabarus dance over their eggs.

Jabarus dance over their eggs.

As the seasons come and go that is how we should flow.

Between sunsets and sunrise is the time to close our eyes.

Our body needs time to repair and our body needs fresh air.

Everyone needs food to live if you have plenty you should give.

To take more than you need is greedy. Some should be given to the needy.

Hungry people have little to lose, how you would react in their shoes?

Would you kneel down and pray to heaven above, or rise up and fight for the ones that you love?

Feeding Blue Toung that lives in our garden.

Feeding Blue Toung that lives in our garden.

The most important example nature gives is the same for everything that lives.

That balance is a law that takes care of all. As well as the massive the very small.

One cannot continue without the other, some have to suffer we discover.

All we need to survive is the minimum to stay alive.

Belief and truth should never be confused only take what you can use.

Do not just hear me you must listen to understand our position.

Wanting is not the same as need, desire and wanting lead to greed.

Giving is the seed to sow; happiness will be the crop we grow.

Seeing things Banksia and golden Palm seeds.

Seeing things Banksia and golden Palm seeds.

“Science with its chain-saws and bulldozers of reason, has felled the tropical rainforests of spirituality. It has wrecked ecological destruction on fairyland. It has extinguished the leprechauns, the elves and goblins. It has caused a global change in the weather of imagination. It has made a dust bowl of our Eden, and created an inner drought. And all of this, not to bring greater peace or happiness, but to satisfy people’s hunger for the Big Macs of technology.” This is how Nick Humphrey see our fear of science.

I think we should not blame  science  for giving us a better life. A parent some times gives a child too much and the child does not learn to appreciate. It is our greed causing the problems the ones taking more than they need. Nick Humphrey has said more than a casual reader will pick up on. What are the leprechauns, elves and goblins science extinguished. Imagine if science succeeded and we learned not to argue about fairy stories.

The face of nature.

The face of nature, not all will see it.

A heart beat in eternity.

Mountains appear permenent to man.

Mountains appear permanent to man.

This earth mans residence is a speck of dust in the cosmos. Steel rusts, rocks erode, water pollutes, flesh decays, man suffers. The wheel turns, the wind blows, the clouds gather, the rain falls, the water washes the earth, the rivers run. The sediment is cleared and washed to the oceans, like chloesterol washers from our arteries with exercise, clearing the blockages.  The sediment settles, the water clears the silt compacts, completing the cycle. The sun shines the plants grow man rejoices.

Children appreciate water.

Children appreciate water

The flesh is tender our time is fleeting. Like a heart beat in eternity man will not witness the metamorphic action that completes the cycle. Man is only an infinitesimal part of creation. So look within for all without. If we have the gift we know to give. To want for nothing is to have it all.

Clouds reflected in water.

Clouds reflected in water.

An inherent force dominates all things. The power under laying all phenomena can move the largest obstacle and balance every minute detail of action and reaction, relentlessly changing everything to a state of equilibrium. Such a power will have no problem in dispensing with mans efforts to alter this process to his desire. Care has to be taken when interfering with this power. Man’s life is limited the force that governs all is eternal. Call this force by any name you wish as long as you respect the ultimate power I am referring to.

Not all times doing.

Man created these ruins at Ayatia Thailand time softened blow.

We should live our lives with this thought. All things, both good and bad, change in time. What we perceive as good will not last. So why grieve when the unavoidable happens, change is the way of all things. What we find both pleasant and unpleasant passes, change is neither good nor bad it is only the nature of all things. For peace of mind we have to accept this reality graciously.

Time takes over.

Time takes over.

Time passes the result is change. We also change and if we understand that greed, fear, hate and delusion are the cause of our problems we can change these faults compassionately sharing instead of greedily hording. Learning and practicing the truth, instead of fearing the unknown and lying because of ignorance, greed, hate or fear. Try to cooperate and appreciate our heart beat in eternity.

What shall I DO?

“What’s all the stink about?”

What is going on out there?

according to the media it is mostly all mayhem. Watching world news on T.V. can be very disturbing. It would be irresponsible to take no interest, The question is what can we do as individuals to fix these problems?

I am not looking for trouble.

Reinhold Niebuhr came up with, “The Serenity Prayer.” To quote it “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and to have the wisdom to know the difference.” This is good advice, but without his faith in God, what shall I do!

Keep quiet.

We have little control over the outside. Therefore we should direct our time and energy, not dwelling on the things of the material world. We should concentrate on what emotional effect all this-worldly turmoil is having on our mind.

Racing in the rain,

Is our mind racing around juggling thoughts, frantically pursuing answers, to no avail? What shall I do? Become apathetic and chase after pleasurable distractions and finding no lasting satisfaction from that, chase what is pleasant only to find that it is only a temporary distraction. Hurrying to what we want or scurry away from the unpleasant, on the go never calm. We become unhappy, even disturbed, and emotionally unstable. In this state of mind we can not do anything or help anyone, we will then need help. What shall I do!

The ostrich, it is said, sticks its head in the ground.

Stop it is as simple as that, meditate, calm down, concentrate get those disturbing thoughts under your control. Like a radio when static interferes we have to tune in and stop the mind static by meditation. An unsettled mind cannot think clearly. Practicing meditation you become mindful of your thoughts and your emotional state.

Takeing it easy, in deep thought.

Be aware of those negative mind states and how they feel and what they are. When you are delayed or have to wait, recognize impatience arising, when you are mindful the impatience will not escalate into anger that can turn to what is known as road rage. There are many bad feelings, fear, envy, jealousy, hate, greed and anger. Anger is ruinous a person consumed by the fire of anger enjoys nothing. Under strong negative emotions the joy in your life disappears. The antidote for the negative is to fill your heart with positive kind loving and caring feelings for others. There are always people with more, do not envy them, think of the less fortunate and be grateful.

Put on a brave face.

When something breaks or is lost in some way, getting upset will not bring it back, you may feel the loss but does it do any good to let it spoil your day. We can be injured or sick and in pain but is there any need to suffer, crying and making other lives miserable. When in pain you are unhappy and when the pain stops you are happy. Therefore anytime you are not in pain, should be a reason to be happy. What shall I do?

I don’t want to hear it.

Look on the inside; think what is happening inside your mind. What effect is the outside environment having on your mind and take control of your thoughts. Thoughts lead to actions and actions become habits. You can cultivate good or bad habits and as you sow so shall you reap, that sentiment is quoted in all major ideologies.

The Buddha.

What you can do, is to make your goal in life, to change the world by your example. To do that, you need to be aware of your thoughts and their effect on your feelings and behavior. This is not easy it takes practice, another quote, “To know and not to do, is still not to know.” I have found that meditation has helped me to be a better person and being a better person has brought its own rewards. There is no action without reaction; this is the law of Karma.

The indigenous Australian have been persecuted suffered.

What shall I do? Start with a smile and the world will return your smiles. That was my first lesson on Karma. Taking a deep breath and trying to follow only my breathing was the beginning of meditation practice. The Buddha gave us a wonderful guide in, “The Eight Fold Path, it is a lifelong endeavor of self-improvement. In this world of many distractions you will often take wrong turns, but as in meditation just refocus, put it behind you and continue.

When you are smiling the whole world smiles with you.

Your smile will be infectious. Your courtesy when driving will alleviate stress in others. Your kindness will be appreciated; your honesty will breed trust. If you want to conserve be conservative not extravagant. Your appreciation will be appreciated and your respect will bring you respect. In heavy traffic you will have the opportunity to practice your patience and if you do you will not promote that dreaded “road rage”. There will be many opportunities in life to change the world, around you for the better, by your actions.

In the temple meditating.

Do not expect others to do this for you. Wish in one hand and cry into the other and see which gets full first. You can protest, you can pray or Keep asking, what shall I do?

 Steps to restore the environment.

Rest is found in the greens of nature.

This post was prompted because so many people are deeply concerned about the impact our materialistic system is having on the environment and our quality of life.

Worry is futile.

Worries and fears will not help and violent action will aggravate the problem. Putting our hands together praying may still our fear but the problem will remain. Although a practical spiritual approach is needed.

Friends with Buddha.

Understanding the Taoist ideas of wu-wei, (the action of non action) and to be in balance with nature, would be of some help. The Buddha’s understanding of the nature of reality found in the Four Noble Truths and practicing the steps he prescribed in The Eight Fold Path could be the answer. If we were to follow this philosophy the problems of the modern world could be turned around. With this understanding and practice I believe there would be a vast improvement in your happiness and the world in general.

Fathers choice a Christian child.

There is no need to change your religious beliefs, understanding the Four Noble Truths and by following the Eight Fold Path would enhance your existing beliefs not change them.

Sacred places are tranqual havens.

Mother natures problem child.

The problem child does not want to go to bed, stays up late watching television. What the child watches is mostly violence or negative nonsense interrupted by the advertising of useless extravagant things we cannot afford. The violence instills fear because of fear the child is driven to school. Two cars are then needed in the family. Father has no time to wait for busses to get to work. Busses are so infrequent, no-one uses them except old people and they get a concession on their fare, no wonder public transport is failing to give good service. The children need to be taken to sport, and other activities by car, they cannot ride their bikes because the roads are crowded with dangerous drivers, hurrying to keep up with the modern pace of the human race.

A nice toy for the boy.

The cost of all the labour-saving devices, we are enticed to buy by the advertising industry has made it necessary to go to a gym to exercise. We could get our exercise in many other ways but there is not time for messing around at the beach surfing or wandering in the mountains. We have to keep earning those dollars to pay for all our time-saving and fashionable, ego building, items advertising lured us into buying.

Natural and free is the way to be.

The garden is paved there is no time to play in a garden. A chlorinated swimming pool replaces the lawn, with a few sculptured garden gnomes and sometimes a concrete Buddha meditating. The birds, bees and interesting creatures have no reason to visit, this sterile unnatural place. Mother Nature’s delinquent children have no time to enjoy her free gifts. They are too busy greedily acquiring more things to hoard and clutter up their life.

Economical and practical.

This is not my problem I am not wasting my time worrying about the environment. Nature is infinite it cannot be destroyed; man will ultimately destroy himself with his ignorance. In nature nothing is lost it only changes, as matter in a compost heap breaks down to become nutrients for new life.

We need to take care, of natures beauty.

A truce is needed in all mans wars and a united effort is needed to restore our alliance with nature.

Altogether beautiful.

I am only concerned in fixing my own faults and how much I am abusing nature’s free gifts. I have little influence on the world; I only have influence on myself. Advertising is selling it but I am resisting the temptation to buy and throw out something just because it is faded or out of fashion. Do not buy unless you have a genuine need. Nature is a lasting free gift, other costly things are impermanent and time is an irreplaceable resource, once spent it can never be regained, you cannot relive yesterday. Our life is made of un-renewable time.

beautifying the world.

Good outlook, heigh position.

The big question.

Philosophers ask the big questions, here are some small questions and ironic answers.

Great job.

Why are we working long hours? The answer is to pay for time and labor saving devices. Why do I need a car to go to the gym? Because we get no exercise driving a car. Cycling or walking in the open air with the world unfolding at an enjoyable pace is worth considering.

Skys the limit.

Why do we need a car that travels faster than the legal speed limit? Same reason people smoke. We need to slow down and look at the flowers you do not see much at fifty km/hr through a smoke haze.

No gym fees low cost transport, no smoke.

Why do we buy expensive equipment and not read the manual on how to use all the available features? Because we do not need all the features we have paid for.

Why do we discard things that are still useful and serviceable? The reason often is because they are not the latest fashion.

We have it all.

Why do we waste our time on material things we do not need? Because we do not value our time that is an irreplaceable commodity.

We may think he has it all.

Why do we want everything? Because we are lacking something.

Why do people argue with us? It is because we are disagreeable. Why are we too short of time to relax? Because we are too busy making money.

On reflection this one has it all.

Why do we worry because most of the things we worry about never happen?

Why do we try to convert others to our beliefs? Because we will not consider changing our beliefs.

Why do some people want for nothing? It is because they are contented with having what they need and real needs are not extravagence.

Which one is the best?

It is a poor man that needs to greedily hoard material things in an effort to be happy. Modern technology can never surpass, in any field of mans costly endeavors, natures gifts. Nature’s wonderful gifts are free to those that respect and appreciate what she offers.

I think I’ll go by train.

This entire futile struggle needs to be questioned and a more leisurely approach, in balance with the flow of nature, is required.

Bikes are best.
