When I asked, “Do you believe in god.”

she said “No there is only a devil. If there was a god bad things would not happen.”

“You don’t believe the stories in the bible?”

“Not all the stories.”

“Why not?”

“Because it was written by men for men they made God a man. There is no missus God.”
“So what do you believe?”

“I believe greed is a sin, if there was not greed everyone would have enough and be happy.”

“Is greed the cause of all the problems in the world?”

“Ignorance, fear and greed are the causes of all evil, all good things are the result of kindness.”

“You sound like a Buddhist.”

“Religion causes arguments. Let’s change the subject, or we will finish up fighting, let’s make love not war.”

Comferdentually.

Not from the mouths of these babes,

By love she meant adult play, it was uninhibited physical passionate engagement.
The word love used loosely, as I often do, is ambiguous the word love needs adjectives to define it. Unconditional love – agape in Greek as apposed to Eros or the word meta the Pali word – like parental love.

Wise words.

Wise words.

My inhibitions prevented me from acting in a totally relaxed and natural way. I loved her and always will remember her free uninhibited love.
Religion gets people mixed up and perverted about their body. Causing natural behaviour to be distorted and can be the cause of mental disorders. Priests, monks and nuns, forced to live an unnatural life, come under a lot of pressure. Recently the Catholic Church has been embarrassed by priests charged with paedophilia.

A red rose has thorns.

A red rose has thorns.

I do not believe these people are evil it is what they are afflicted with that is the problem. Removing these impurities and defilements would restore the person. As waste water is filtered and becomes useful so can corrupt humans, in most cases be reformed.

Passion flower.

Passion flower.

Circumstances play a big part in our life. Life can be turbulent or calm; when we are having a bad hair day we are not at our best. Aussies are good sports men, no underhand play (bowling), when they are winning.
The point is get all the facts don’t be quick to condemn. There is a lot of good in the worst of us and a lot of bad in the best of us, so it is not right for the best of us to judge the rest of us. Who is going to cast the first stone?

SONGS HAVE MEMORIES.

To Bondi 1of 2 471_4000x3000

As I remember we fitted together like a key in a lock. Until the way-would gypsy in me broke the lock that held us together. I was not ready to nest, I wanted to spread my wings and fly. Like the wild goose Frankie Lain sang about, in the 50s. But it was Judith Durham’s The Carnival is over that was haunting me in the 60s those harbour lights had mesmerised me.

We like to think we are wild geese.

We like to think we are wild geese.

Life is a puzzle, full of ironies, and words are an imperfect medium to explain it. To allowed the monkey in our mind to wilfully swing from thought to thought is not mindful.  When one consciously lets the mind recall the past, or purposely plan for the future, it is alright. It is when we let our mind run on auto pilot and allow our subconscious to take the wheel we are in danger of losing control.

Who wants a better stove?

Who wants a better stove?

Hurrying to the future is prevalent in the technological world of today. Oblivious of our tasty breakfast we gulp our food to rush to a mundane job. Toiling for more than we need, desiring status symbols or devices we are told will save us time. Time cannot be saved; it is a passing thing that cannot be clung to. Aware, but not consciously aware and mindful, mindful is to be consciously aware, not running on auto pilot.

Full of youthful bounce.

Full of youthful bounce.

Knowing I am dwelling in the past is not fretting or regretting, it is recalling those passionate hot to trot youthful days, when love was synonymous with romance, infatuation and conquest. It is good not to forget those days and criticise the youth of today. Our vocabulary has improved now we know the meaning of reciprocity. Aware that true love is giving more than taking. True love is one thing that the more you give the more you receive.

Will they fall.... in-love ?

Will they fall…. in-love ?

Ignorant of the wisdom of the sages passed down through the ages. Back in my youth I had two gypsies in me, called curiosity and adventure, goading me on. The warm bed the tender caresses forfeited for faraway fields. There is no remorse, only a bitter sweet feeling of what might have been. I am sure I did the right thing; I needed to grow in understanding.

You see a lot when you travel.

You see a lot when you travel.

Traveling alone in foreign lands is the best teacher one can ever have.

May be this is your Christmas wish.

May be this is your Christmas wish.

In my memory she will remain a golden haired girl full of life. In reality I can imagine a grey and wrinkled woman. Our memory can span the ocean of time but an ocean of water has flown under the bridge since the 60s. Perhaps after a long tiresome journey she has gone home to rest. To be a billion dust-mites floating on the morning breeze to sparkle in the morning sun as new life.

A lovely person from the 60s.

A lovely person from the 60s.

Who knows?

I will end my love story here I have revealed enough. I have given you more than you realise, if not what you expected. Sorry if the ending was not a wonderful exciting climax. But this is not a TV romance made to make millions. It is just a story similar to many stories that leave us wondering.

This is the fruity ending, not as you pictured.

This is the fruity ending, not as you pictured.

Get out and see the light.

Get out and see the light.

Windows are inciting opportunities.

Some one saw an opportunity here.

Someone saw an opportunity here.

Our dwellings should have many windows to let in the light. To live in a house with one window is to dwell in darkness.

Go around obstacles.

Go around obstacles.

Only looking out one window is to have a limited view. Fill your house with windows to see the world from different viewpoints.

Accept the challenges.

Accept the challenges.

I cannot see things as you do from where I am standing and you cannot see things as I do from your location. Maybe we should change positions and we would see things undistorted in true perspective.

The more windows the more the more you see.

The more windows the more you see.

The more windows the wider our outlook, to look out of only one window is to see only one side of our wondrous world.

See more than you REALEYES.

See more than you REALEYES.

The person with one window is like the person with only one book. They are limited in their views; one should never draw the curtains on other views. Look and see the many possibilities.

Lots of windows but some never look.

Lots of windows but some never look.

A house full of windows is a house full of light, light that makes it possible to see all viewpoints. Look out of every window and into every window to see the vast range of opportunity, to paint or photograph your beautiful picture.

There are many opportunities missed in hast.

There are many opportunities missed in haste.

Build your house with many windows take the best from all view points and your wisdom will grow. Never limiting ones view from one window, one book, one country or one belief broadens your horizons.

Look everywhere and broaden any limited views.

Look everywhere and broaden any limited views.

Dawn inspired me to photograph windows. You may like to go to her site “The day after” to see what has inspired others.

Reflections.

Reflecting on reflections.

Reflecting on reflections.

I need to take a few deep breaths to ground my mind in the now. To reflect on the purpose of my blog or I may become apathetic. My blog is for my enjoyment, not as an ego trip. It is to share some wisdom I have found helpful in coping with some of life’s challenges and share some of nature’s beauty using my photos and drawings. The intention is to help in an entertaining way to lighten some of the worries troubling our modern day life.

Nothing can disturb my reflections.

Nothing can disturb my reflections.

Why would I lose my enthusiasm? I have people following my blog and some give encouraging comments. The reason I believe is ideological amplification or like the proverb “Birds of a feather flock together.”  The people following my blog are not in need of my help they already have a good positive attitude.

Except change.

Except change we must accept change.

After meditating I feel ready to share some helpful ideas. By writing these ideas I revise them so they become indelibly imprinted on my long-term memory to be practiced and become a habit.  So thinking right thoughts leads to right speech and actions that become second nature to me. Choosing the right words and clarifying my ideas, if nothing else, benefit me in many ways. The irony of helping others is we benefit from our own good intentions.

Go with the flow.

Go with the flow.

Reflecting on some of my favourite words and why I like them. Equanimity, if you have this quality you are in control of your emotions. Meditation is the way to calm the mind; a calm mind is a peaceful, unemotional state. Equanimity is synonymous with composure. Although some words are synonymous they have subtle differences. Happiness, pleasure, joy and contentment are all favourite words of mine. Every book I see with happiness in the title I read. The thing is happiness is like joy it does not last and pleasures are fleeting. Contentment is the best state to experience. Reciprocity is a favourite word because if we exchange our ideas with an open mind communicating with understanding, we would find we agree on more things than we disagree on.

Every thing passes.

Every thing passes.

I like to reflect, concentrate and meditate on positive words. These words invoke uplifting thoughts, the thought precedes the action. There is no action without a reaction. If we want respect we must give respect. To look for the virtuous dwell on the honourable and engaging in kindness will change our outlook on life. That has a direct positive effect on the enjoyment of every aspect of our life.

Every thing is subject to change.

Every thing is subject to change.

What is your most inspiring, favourite or important words to meditate on? You may like to give this some thought and let me know your choice of words and the reason why. They say a picture is worth a thousand words but neurologists say words make a greater lasting impression.

Calm returns with quiet reflection.

Calm returns with quiet reflection.

Windows and views.

There is no end to the different ways of look at windows and photographing them. If we use our imagination photography is an art and a way to show others something they may not notice. So I have chosen for Dawn’s “Lingering look at windows.” a variety of thing we can see looking at windows and out of windows and the varied designs of windows, how windows often reflect like a mirror and how abstract compositions can be made using windows. My photos are not the high quality of a professional photographer but I hope they can give ideas for others to follow-up.

Often we are critical of a photo that may be a bit out of focus and miss its other qualities. A judgmental approach to all things in life hampers our ability of enjoyment. We are given the wrong message as children when we are told you have to do better. Top of the class second place is no good. We should be told do your best and enjoy what you are doing, stay focused and keep practicing. You can only do your best.

I paid my three sons a wage for helping me do the work in running our home. They each got the same wage and my eldest son thought he should get more than his brothers because he did more work. I asked him was he doing his best and if his brothers were doing their best. “Yes” he said to both questions. “That is good, because that is what you are being paid to do, no one can be expected to anymore.” My answer satisfied him but I gave them all an increase. They were earning it and they all have grown up able to look after themselves.

Everything you do should be your best but that does not mean you have to make it a chore. People say to children do your chores or you will get no pocket-money. The definition of a chore is an unpleasant task. My sons felt grown up they were paid a wage for working and the work was challenging for boys but the rewards were worthwhile.

What has all this got to do with windows? Everything is interrelated, I will explain that some other time. I have already wandered away from the window and my view is lost. Getting back to the window, my view is do your best have a go and enjoy your view.

This is different.

This is different.

 The art of enjoyment.

Rosny Cottage front view.

Rosny Cottage front view.

I avoid work yet I have got a lot done. I rarely ever toiled doing something I do not want to do. I have played all my life. As boy I enjoyed helping my mother on our poultry farm. It was a pleasure feeding the fouls. Chickens are a joy to look after. On cold nights our chickens were kept warmed by the heat of an oil lamp. It was nice and warm in the brooder shed and Mum let me sleep in there so I could stop those fluffy yellow chickens from huddling and crushing up too close to keep warm.

I was not all that happy about school education. I only did seven years interrupted by as many excuses as I could find. I liked the social side of school as I was the biggest boy in my class consequently I never experienced any bullying.

My first steady job was in a bakery that was a nice job the smell of bread baking is one of my favourite smells.  Up early you never miss a sun rise, and that is a good habit to get into, baking completed you have plenty of daylight left to play.

Then I found a livelihood I loved and Rigging became my game. Before the safety regulations, now carried to extremes, spoiling a challenging job. When a man could climb around on the steel without being unencumbered by a safety belt and ride the crane hook I enjoyed being a dare-devil now the young have to do things that endanger others to get their buzz.

What I am getting around to saying is, “Find something you like doing and you never have to work for a living.” Rigging was my game out in the fresh air getting good exercise and some excitement and being paid to do it. When I becoming an overseer I enjoyed passing on easy safe ways to get the job done. I held classes on wet down time days, making them into productive days.

Sketched with 4B and 8B.

I learn to be more observant trying to record what is before me with a simple sketch pad and pencils. You can use all the range if you like. From H being hard to B black softer and darker to B 8 there is no end to how you can play and learn. I play with whatever is at hand.

Flowers inhabced.

Without a printer I used my camera to convert my sketch to the computer. Now the fun starts it needs a bit of contrast, Photoshop is used.

Then why not have a game with the other tools available, learn what these graphic designers use to make their advertising look irresistible.

Added enhancement, same drawing.

 Path to practice.

Many paths to the top of the mountain.

Many paths to the top of the mountain.

You may not believe the story of Jesus’ resurrection as described in the Bible, (Mathew 28: 1-20; Mark 16:1-20; Luke 24: 1-49; john 20: 1-21 :25,). You may have another story from a book you hold sacred. Whether you believe it true or false, does not automatically make you a nice person. You do not need to belong to any one religion or philosophical group to be a decent, honest and caring person. A person can have any religious or philosophical belief as long as they live in harmony with their fellow-man, practicing noble ethical qualities. The downside is you may not go to heaven, that is a hot subject to debate.

After the crucifixtion.

After the Crucifixion.

Observing a few basic, ethical rules and practicing them govern whether a person is a worthy person you can trust and rely on. In reality people are not, “good people”, people specially chosen. There are the uninformed or ignorant and there are people who genuinely believe they know, but may be misinformed, but still can be nice people, eager to help anyone in need. Bearing this in mind we must not be ignorant, arrogant or rude, listen with respect, balance the facts and except what is helpful and disregard what is nonsense.

The golden rule.

The golden rule.

There are basic ethical rules that do not conflict with any major religion and are incorporated in their precepts or laws. All worthy people who practice the qualities of kindness and consideration for their fellow-man are good people. To be kind you must be considerate and have respect for the feelings of others. If you are respectful you will be respected, that is the meaning of reciprocity in action. Treating others as we would like to be treated is “the golden rule.” When practicing the “golden rule,” you must remember we do not all have the same ideas, likes and dislikes. Therefore you should always consider the others preferences.

A nother choice, one of the Hindu trinity.

Another choice, one of the Hindu trinity.

The Christians follow “the Ten commandments”. Other beliefs have their guiding laws and precepts. They all agreed on the same fundamental principles, of prohibiting killing, upholding honesty, not lying or stealing, prohibiting illicit sex and violence, also not abusing drugs. All drugs are harmful; all have side effects, these effects must be considered carefully. A little may be a beneficial medicine or it could be dangerous poison. If you do not practice these laws or rules you are either ignorant or a fool. These are the principles that allow society to live in peace and harmony. The ignorant need teaching the fool is sick and needs understanding care and compassion.

Generosity without limit beer in moderation.

Generosity without limit beer in moderation.

There should be a meeting place, where we can practice the things we do agree on. Then listen to each other’s thoughts, views, ideas and beliefs without argument. controlling our thoughts and emotions is essential or what started out as a discussion could escalate into an argument that could become violent.

Religion can be an excuse to plunder.

Religion can be an excuse to plunder.

Learning to control the thoughts that are agitating our mind, like static interferes with T.V. reception, some people use meditation, some use pray and some may be gifted with a tranquil nature. Whatever religion or philosophy is chosen if it allows you to listen calmly in the midst of a debate and not get angry or resentful it is serving you well. You will become wise by listening and not allow your pride or ego to draw you into an argument. You will remain silent or respond with calm logic to the question under debate. It may be difficult to tolerate people who persist in not seeing clearly as you beleave. Consider this is good practice for awareness of your thoughts and tolerance towards others. Remember conversely the situation is also difficult for the other party.

Montage of Religions.

Montage of Religions.

We have to share this small world with many different races with their diverse customs and practices. There are many major religions each with a surprising number of different branches or denominations. This gives us a vast amount to study and consider before we decide who is right. Till we get to know people of other beliefs, read their writing and study their ideas can we know whose teachings are the supreme path to follow? Till then be tolerant and promote what we all can agree on.

Not yet tranquil.

One book is good, a library is better.

Krishna Dancers.

Krishna Dancers.

What I believe is whatever will help me live in harmony with my environment especially my fellow-man. Regardless of our differences I see every one as my brother, so to speak, as we all bleed the same colour. There is no One God, there are many gods and, ironically, every one of the many gods, is the One God to those that believe in that god. That is the One God, the supreme One God out of the many gods.

Gnashi one of many Hindu gods.

Ganesa one of many Hindu gods.

All these gods are different and they take many forms often this form resembles the appearance of the believer. The Hindu God Brahman takes may forms the most incredible is Ganesa having a man’s body and an elephant’s head, as outlandish as Ganesa and countless other gods. Within the different branches of Hinduism their myths do contain wisdom and good ethics. People may find it impossible to accept these gods as anything but ridiculous. Conversely they may think other people’s gods and your God is stupid. If you are offended by someone ridiculing your God, realize others will likewise be offended if you make fun of their God. Respect is a reciprocal thing if you want respect show others respect.

The surpreme as a young cow herder.

The Surpreme Hindu God, as a young cow herder.

God could also be thought of as a force or an indefinable power. As Ob Ben Kenobi, in the movie “Star Wars”, said “May the Force be with you”, and Lao Tzu said “The Tao that can be described is not the real Tao. Both are forces that permeate everything in the cosmos. Could Mother Nature and her complex laws, that keep everything in the universe in equilibrium be the answer? Nature is beyond mans capacity to understand. Consequently all mans endeavors to change nature to his desires has had adverse repercussions.

Another fan of Buddah.

Another fan of Buddha.

Mother Nature a matriarchal yin idea as opposed to a patriarchal yang idea appears logical to me. The Taoist ideas of the complementary forces of yin and yang are present in all things. They are opposing, yet one cannot exist without the other. I do not want to enter into any debate on Gods or creation. History shows that this leads to bad feelings that can escalate into war. Religious crusades are often used as an excuse to plunder. Religion can also be used as a political tool.

Reclining Buddha.

Reclining Buddha,Wat Poe Bangkok.

The Buddha Shakyamuni was a peaceful man and never entered into the God debate. His goal in life was to find a means to eradicate pain and suffering in the world. I practice some of the teachings attributed to him, as I have found them effective in helping me to attain peace and contentment. The teachings of The Buddha gave us a practical approach to a lifelong endeavor of self-improvement. He taught understanding, selflessness, respect, kindness, positive attitude and reciprocity. Steps for practicing The Buddha’s Eight Fold Path, are, not necessarily in this order, Right Understanding, Right Thoughts, Right Speech, Right Actions, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, Right concentration. The way to improve our concentration is to control the agitated thoughts in the mind by meditation.

A Buddhas for the children.

A Buddha for the children.

The Buddha taught not only love, but love needs to come from a serene and focus mind. This kind of love is actually empathy. Jesus Christ advocated selfless love, even to an enemy. He never campaigned for war; he knew love is the greatest conqueror. Love is the antidote to hate.

A beautiful country church.

A beautiful country church.

There have been many wise sages throughout history, if part of their philosophy or belief does not make sense, do not reject what does. All helpful statements should not be ignored. Friends often over look our faults, our adversaries criticize, and this is good how else are we to know what our faults are.   Keeping an open mind is the best way to learn. There are many paths to the top of a mountain, you will find they have one thing in common; they are all uphill none are easy.

Love & respect are beautiful to all people.

Good outlook, heigh position.

The big question.

Philosophers ask the big questions, here are some small questions and ironic answers.

Great job.

Why are we working long hours? The answer is to pay for time and labor saving devices. Why do I need a car to go to the gym? Because we get no exercise driving a car. Cycling or walking in the open air with the world unfolding at an enjoyable pace is worth considering.

Skys the limit.

Why do we need a car that travels faster than the legal speed limit? Same reason people smoke. We need to slow down and look at the flowers you do not see much at fifty km/hr through a smoke haze.

No gym fees low cost transport, no smoke.

Why do we buy expensive equipment and not read the manual on how to use all the available features? Because we do not need all the features we have paid for.

Why do we discard things that are still useful and serviceable? The reason often is because they are not the latest fashion.

We have it all.

Why do we waste our time on material things we do not need? Because we do not value our time that is an irreplaceable commodity.

We may think he has it all.

Why do we want everything? Because we are lacking something.

Why do people argue with us? It is because we are disagreeable. Why are we too short of time to relax? Because we are too busy making money.

On reflection this one has it all.

Why do we worry because most of the things we worry about never happen?

Why do we try to convert others to our beliefs? Because we will not consider changing our beliefs.

Why do some people want for nothing? It is because they are contented with having what they need and real needs are not extravagence.

Which one is the best?

It is a poor man that needs to greedily hoard material things in an effort to be happy. Modern technology can never surpass, in any field of mans costly endeavors, natures gifts. Nature’s wonderful gifts are free to those that respect and appreciate what she offers.

I think I’ll go by train.

This entire futile struggle needs to be questioned and a more leisurely approach, in balance with the flow of nature, is required.

Bikes are best.

Creature from the backside of the moon.

Reflect on how you look at

everything.

This insect is not easy to see, unless you have been sampling Psilocybe cubensis, a potent species of psychedelic mushroom, known as Golden Magic Mushrooms.

Murky river.

A tree smiles at me and gives me the eye,

What would I see if shown a psychiatrist’s ink blot book? Would I be like the man who saw sex orgies in every picture? The psychiatrist diagnosed him as obsessed with sex. To this the patient complained,” You are worse; you’re the one showing people your dirty picture book!”

Bear faced tree.

All jokes aside, in all seriousness, it is dangerous sampling mushrooms as many are poisonous and all drugs have adverse side-effects. Even prescribed drugs have side effects. Compare those side-affects with the suffering of the complaint, then decide the best action. We should listen to a doctor’s advice and then, when we have all the information on side-effects, make our own decisions. Never leave your important decisions to someone else.

Reflecting on good.

Drug companies push their product; doctors are supplied with information and samples of products from drug dealers, sorry, drug companies they call themselves. Doctors are usually under pressure from impatient patients and the fast changing methods of treatment are hard to keep up with. So doctors do not always look at all the angles.

Shadows of giraffes.

When you choose a book do you consider the authors back ground and knowledge of the subject or his motives in writing? In moderation to be entertained with relaxed light reading or thought provoking reading can be a good thing. Variety is needed otherwise you will become bored and narrow-minded in your outlook. How do doctors choose their literature?

Buddha statue reflecting.

Are you getting the full picture, are you looking at things from all angles? Are you reflecting on things of importance or hurrying to the next thing on your busy agenda. Look at everything with an open mind; it is surprising what you will see. Not all abstract art is rubbish; we need to see it through the artist’s eyes.

Nature is the best artist both conventional and abstract. Nature is the creator of all things wonderous; man can copy but never surpass nature in art, invention or any of his endeavors. To appreciate this take the time to look, the deeper you look at nature’s world the more you will see. It will turn your life around to live closer to nature.

Jack in wonderland of reflection.

Nature programs on T.V. are as good as it gets, the movie by that name was also good, but there is nothing like the real thing, as the patient said to his psychiatrist, after looking at the ink blot book.
