Fully Absorber in the Now.

Watching the action.

Watching the action.

“Jack!”

I put the finishing touches to the picture.

Fully focused on what I am doing and thinking of nothing else.

Now I think I’ll pencil it in the calligraphy, then I hear but am not listening.

“Jack!!”

‘Then see how it looks before using the ink.’

“Jack!!!”

I am aware of the irritable emotion but answer without thinking.

“What’s the problem?”

“You are the problem, I don’t know if you can hear me or are ignoring me.”

“I am absorbed, doing some art.”

“Can’t you just say YES so I know you have heard?”

Aware I am getting annoyed, I should have done my little, count to ten, few deep breaths, unmindful I just respond.

! YES! YES!” Then I realise I am losing my temper.

“Just go back to your art sorry I interrupted you!”

“No I want to know, should I ring the fire brigade or the police what is the emergency?” That was I realise nasty, sarcasm.

“It is not important, I just wanted to know where you hid the rake, it is not where it should be kept.”

“Sorry, last time I saw it was when we were mulching up the pruning.”

“Well it is not where it should be kept.”

I am trying to recall what happened.

“I was raking up the last of the leaves; yes, you called me to help put the tarp around the mulching machine. Have you looked in where the mulcher is?”

“No, did you leave it there?”

“May be I was raking up and you asked me to help you with the mulcher I probably just put it down without thinking, I remember putting my gloves back on the bench but can’t remember what I did with the rake.”

“You remember all that but can’t remember where you put the rake.”

“Well I was not thinking at the time I was running on auto pilot, unmindful just responding not fully aware.”

“What’s all this living in the now you have been reading about?”

Two minutes later “I found the rake, where you left it in by the mulcher.”

“That’s great, come and have a look at what I’ve done.”

“I like the surfer catching the wave, but what has that got to do with the writing,

“We only have one moment to live and that is NOW.”

“Well the wave is passing but the surfer has caught it, he is living right in the now.”

“And you left the rake in the past.”

“Let’s not live in the past”

“If you want to live in the now, be mindful of where you leave the rake in future.”

Some times we get dumped.

This is the drawing I was fully absorbed in.

Can I call it art or was I just having fun.

Can I call it art or was I just having fun?

Enjoy your trip.

Flowers do well with some fertiliser.

Flowers do well with some fertiliser.

I am getting ready for I know I must go.

Into the low land to make the flowers grow.

No baggage allowed on this trip I am told.

You can’t take it with you, money or gold.

View of Mt Warning on my way to Sydney.

View of Mt Warning on my way to Sydney.

You should always practice traveling light.

Unnecessary baggage is never right.

Why do we cling to possessions in life?

That’s the cause of our troubles and strife

Traveling light carry on baggage 56x36x23 cm.

Traveling light carry on baggage 56x36x23 cm.

Possessions weigh you down and slow your pace.

This is the greatest problem for the human race.

Giving, sharing, relaxing and letting go.

We should practice, that is one thing I know.

Enjoying the early morning.

Enjoying the early morning.

It is a one-way ticket don’t miss the bus,

Because of baggage and needless fuss.

Do not grasp and cling to life in this way

Experience life’s joy, make it a holiday.

A great way to great the day.

A great way to greet the day.

It does not matter if you walk or go by plane.

It’s the path you choose that makes it joy or pain.

Kindness, caring, hugs and maybe a kiss,

Is the way to fill your life with mostly bliss.

A golden flower like a golden....

A golden flower like a gold sun rise.

The destination is not the important thing.

It’s how much joy and happiness you bring.

When your travels are over, you may feel like a rest.

I don’t know but whatever happens it will be for the best.

Sun rise not a cloud in the sky.

Surprise a sun rise with not a cloud in the sky.

 Just Have a Go.

Zeebra will agree with this in her “time out for art”

“You are not going to post that rubbish?” My ego enquired,

“Why not?”

“Your grandkids can do better drawings and the photos are just snap shots.”

“Because I am not a genius you would have me doing nothing but sit around watching TV. I am not hurting anyone enjoying a pastime, people with no mobile phone to play with would be left twiddling their thumbs and getting up tight and impatient. “

Keeping up with the news.

Keeping up with the news.

So why not show other people that they do not need an expensive toy or talent to look at the wonderful world around them. Matt Groening did not let it stop him while he was waiting, he drew Bart Simpson. I enjoy the lulls in life, instead of getting impatient, I draw and it is relaxing and takes my mind off myself. Even when you have some discomfort the diversion will take your mind off what is ailing you.

I am on the bus, what are you doing.

I am on the bus, what are you doing.

My sketching is not for other people, it is for my enjoyment. Critics can knock it, that is no problem, as long as the comments are constructive, I can learn from criticism and if it is intended to upset me I can laugh at it. Then like a gift that is not accepted, it will remain with the giver. Dale Carnegie said “When someone hands you a lemon, make lemonade.” Your friends will not knock your efforts, at the worst they may have a laugh and laughter is good. When the first baby laughed, that was the beginning of fairies, according Peter Pan.

I am on the bus too, I didn't see you get on.

I am on the bus too, I didn’t see you get on.

My sketching helps my memory; I can recall details of places and things after sketching them. Like photos they are good to look back on, but you can add a bit of yourself in a drawing, a camera just shows the facts; the artist is at liberty to alter the composition, leave things out or add in. When I say artist I am including myself, because if I don’t, no one else will. Yes an artist can distort, or get really abstract.

An old wooden recycled frame, not plastic.

An old wooden recycled frame, not plastic.

Drawing is like playing the ukulele, the more you practice the better you get. It is that way with most things. I say most things but I can’t think of anything that doesn’t improve with practice. It may take a lot of time and practice so the sooner you start the better. That is my biggest fault I started too late. I let my ego get in the way of a lot of things when I was young. Thinking I might look silly or it was not masculine. Groucho Marks did not worry about being silly and John Wayne is dead, so don’t be shy, have a go.

She went two stops, but it was too far to walk.

She went only two stops, but it was too far for her to walk.

I am not Robinson Crusoe, you have all been marooned, cut off from the cyber space world  by a computer glitche.
This creates no real problem, unless you are not relying on your PC for your living.

Waiting for the bus.

Waiting for the bus.

As a mater of fact it did me a favour.
I got back into enjoying some basic activities.
One was my art, I will never be a Leonardo but that does not matter. What matters is it is a relaxing pass time that opens ones eyes to the natural wonders surrounding us.

A reminder not to have too many cakes with your cup of tea.

Pauline was inspired to try her hand at drawing, when she saw, how a small pad and box of pencils could keep me amused while waiting on delayed transport and like situations.
With free time we joined an art group. The teacher Denise Kirk has for 35 years been teaching people how to really see the world around them.

It motivates ones to observe beauty in the every day common place things we have come to disregard.

In a light-hearted way we are taught to see again with the fresh eyes of a child.
Computers are wonderful but like all the fantastic inventions they have a tendency to take over our life. We no longer have time for the simple enjoyment of hands on activity.

A Fantastic Art Gallery.

You don’t have to die to go to heaven I am in heaven, live and pumping. I am back home on the Gold Coast biking down to the beach. There is about 20 km in  both directions from Burleigh of flat bike track adjacent to a string of beaches. I have been about six months without my pushbike and it is good to be back in the saddle and visiting my favourite gym just across the road from Burleigh beach.
There are beaches from Surfers Paradise, a tourist play ground, to Coolangatta and further on north and south.

This post is in the Tweed Valley a short drive from the beaches.

This house is in the Tweed Valley a short drive from the beaches.

It is call the Gold Coast because of the golden sand, or is it because of the bustling entertainment and commercial interest there.
This is the best of both worlds the American style theme parks and then there is the lush hinterland rain forest, the high escarpment has beautiful views of the coast.
It is only a short drive to Tweed with its lush World Heritage rain forests and dramatic mountain ranges and more unspoiled world-famous surfing point breaks beaches.

This spider has a wonderful view through a gallery window.

Journey along the road less travelled pass by tranquil waterways cane fields and dairy farms to picturesque little towns supporting art and craft community’s, it is a lifestyle choice that brings people to  live here.

This is hands on art.

Yesterday we, with friends, visited a remarkable art gallery nestled in the beautiful Tweed Valley. Visit Pauline’s blog to get a detailed view of this gallery.

As usual I got carried away, inspired by the project. I joined in the fun like all the other children.

I was feeling so inspired, encouraged by our two, too kind friends while waiting for lunch, I did some sketching.  Also for inspiration see Zeebra post for inspirational people.

We are now planning to do some trips back into the area to practice our art. As June is very talented and as you probably know Pauline has created some really beautiful paintings. As for Rex we will supply him with the equipment and we may get a surprise.
I will keep you posted and so will our pommepal.

How to think.

Looking for smile.

Looking for a smile.

I have to weed the garden. That is not how to think. Think in a positive way. You do not have to weed the garden, natures garden is growing nicely without my interference. You may think the garden needs some tender loving care, I need some exercise and fresh air.

 Unnoticed, but cows appreciate.

Unnoticed, but cows appreciate.

Do not see weeds, see flowers growing out-of-place. Take a thoughtful look at the Dandelion. It is a beautiful example of what some people dismiss as an invasive weed. Yet a child loves the yellow flowers to make a daisy chain and is delighted to blow the seed heads everywhere.

Look at me, please.

Look at me, please.

Time is not important to a child. The Dandelion clock is a child’s toy. A child picks the seed head, parachute ball, holds it close to the lips and puffs, saying one o’clock, this is a stubborn one, try again, two o’clock and some of the little parachutes float off on the breeze to distant fields. The child puffs again three o’clock and in this way joy is spread far and wide.

A little help from a friend.

A little help from a friend.

A lover may blow the seeds to carry a host of heart-felt wishes to a distant loved one. My wish is when you read this you recall those Dandelion days.

Spreading happiness.

Spreading happiness.

The Dandelion is a joy and grows all over the world. I read it is a native to Eurasia, botanical name Taraxacum, family Asteraceae, It has grown in Eurasia for thirty thousand years.

Mary Poppins using an umbrella I gave her.

Mary Poppins using an umbrella I gave her.

Why do some judgemental people call it a weed? They get all upset because they cannot go with the flow of nature. The right attitude is to not be so judgemental and appreciate all the free gifts of nature

Ball point on serviette, waiting for lunch in café.

Ball point on serviette, waiting for lunch in café.

I am not saying you should not have favourites and do some selective gardening. Only do not let it become a chore. I am not afraid of hard work; I could lie down beside it and go to sleep. Cultivated flowers are beautiful, still we should also appreciate the free gifts.

Escapees hiding in the wild clover.

Escapees hiding in the wild clover.

Be observant consider all the Dandelions attributes. Bright yellow flower heads with hundreds of florets, then those superbly designed seed heads are to be appreciated. The glorious green leaves.

Bees love me.

Bees love me.

Dandelion is a corruption of the French name Dent de Lion meaning Lions tooth. Dandelion lions are more than eye candy; they are a food full of vitamins and minerals. The ground up root makes a caffeine free coffee and their leaves are nourishing, they can be blanched to take away the sharp taste, and the flowers are used in wine.

A perfect design.

A perfect design.

What are your thoughts on Dandelions?

Van Gogh was sun flowers, I am crazy about Dandelions.

Van Gogh was Sun flowers, I am crazy about Dandelions.

Do you see them as invasive weeds?

Sorry I love them.

Sorry I love them.

There are many pleasures in this wonderful world, earthing out barefoot in a field of Dandelions, counting your blessings, making a thousand wishes and blowing those seeds of joy to the wind. To land on someone in need of kindness, these are real pleasure.

They blow me away, as trey say.

They blow me away, as they say.

We are shaped by our thoughts, we become as we think. When the mind is pure, joy flows like a mountain stream, bubbling with exuberant enthusiasm. Stress is not the heavy traffic, the barking dog or challenging work. Stress is our thoughts about them.

Two varieties are like Pauline and love to travel.

Garden gate.

Time and the garden gate.

Drawing on time.

Roosting rooster.

Roosting rooster.

Why is a picture worth a thousand words? The first cave drawings were done by the indigenous people of Australia. The importance of man discovering drawing allowed ideas to be passed on to future generations. The Egyptians then discovered hieroglyphics, picture writing and the Chinese developed abstract picture characters. This allowed information to span across the obstacle of time. A giant step was made in human knowledge allowing vast stores of information to accumulate unobstructed by the barrier of time.

Taking it easy.

Taking it easy.

This has made possible the technology we have today. From cave drawing to letters, the pin hole camera to moving pictures. Need I go on; you only have to look at your P.C. as an example. Although it is not obvious, those primitive drawings were responsible for the visual wonders we have today.

We are safe the cats are contained.

We are safe the cats are contained.

The written word in book form is being overtaken by the technology of today. We are becoming more reliant on pictures for our information. There is a danger in the ease of this visual excitement, we can become lazy.  Sitting back and becoming what is termed a couch potato, vegetables planted in the T.V. garden, vegetating. Letting multinational corporations brain-wash and lead us to believe whatever is in their vested interests. It could be to coercing us to buy something we do not need and possibly cannot afford, or frighten us into increasing our armaments.

Play time.

Play time.

Be aware a picture may be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to the mercenary few who control our media. To those few mercenary people I would like to say contentment cannot be found in material things. It is a poor man who needs position or possessions to be happy. Pleasures are fleeting and like a mirage can never satisfy our thirst.

Our wondrous world with Sun Bird and Zygo cactus.

Our wondrous world with Sun Bird and Zygo cactus.

Today we have too many wondrous distractions to divert us from our arts, crafts and the enjoyment and pleasure in living closer to nature. We are misled into thinking we need many things to be accepted into society. Most of these things are unnecessary desires not needs. We should carefully consider our options also balance our time and activities.

More wonders.

More wonders.

Today it may be thought that drawing has little significance other than an enjoyable pastime. This is not the reason why I am not drawing. The reason is I have been enticed into buying a digital camera and a computer I have taken the tempting bait I am hooked like a greedy fish.

Isa Brown, my favourite red hen.

Isa Brown, my favourite red hen.

There are other reasons I am drawing less. Pauline and I are caring for a two and a half acres property; it is wonderful to be gardening, watching seeds grow, caring for hens and roosters, turning the soil, with the fowls following scratching in the soil, There fresh eggs are pure gold reflecting their natural happy lifestyle. I am also learning to play a ukulele my son gave me and practicing the Chinese way of painting.

Getting into the food.

Getting into the food.

Take a look at Pauline’s blog pommepal@wordpress.com to see more photos and details of our adventures in Malanda and activities on the property in a forest setting. You will see pictures worth a thousand words and words worth reading. Pauline is now drawing really well and her photography justifies the invention of the camera.

Free range, every chook should live this way.

Free range, every fowl should live this way.

All our inventions are wonderful if used to enhance the joy of life. We may overcome the obstruction of time but we can never triumph over time. That is impossible, for man is mortal and time never ends. Time moves relentlessly, we must use it well and enjoy as it is limited. No matter how many short cut inventions we acquire, never forget our time is still the more valuable.
