Let us have a cup of tea.

Let us have a cup of tea.

Actions speak louder than words so don’t annoy me with cross words.

The cross words found in newspapers should be our only cross words.

Crazy photos to match the post.

Crazy photos to match the post.

Cryptic ones are crazy challenges that play with words.

Watch your step.

Watch your step.

This is a cryptic post you may not follow what it is actually on about you might find it is a total waste of time. Time is the problem in places like waiting rooms, when you don’t take a book to read. But there is usually a lot of uninteresting reading matter and this may be the time you feel like having a cross word.

There is lots to watch here.

There is lots to watch here.

It is better to fritter your time away on a cross word than getting all up-tight  There should never be a cross word just an innuendo inserted in the right place. The intro is over now into the crazy crypt crossword.

Could the answer to the puzzling one across be ‘love’, no not enough letters four is not enough. Ignorance is no good, knowledge is needed to succeed. We have to know another word for love. Love is too ambiguous implying romance passion and lust. We have to be precise and know compassion. That’s it one across, compassion, if we have that right four down will be easy. Four down, is found in a doctors waiting room? Eight letters, patients that’s what’s needed.

Incredible what we do to be outstanding.

Incredible what we do to be outstanding.

This one is easy. The clue is, Dance then drink part of a cup of tea an go? Too easy Tango and they say it takes two to Tango. Yes reciprocity is a must for a congenial relationship.

Does it out do those old cathedrals.

Does it surpass those old cathedrals?

So what have we got right, no four letter words the right words are all nice . We have compassion, patience and Tango. Four down has twelve letters. It has to be perseverance, that  ties it all in.

This was built for education.

This was built for education.

Clue to twenty across, nine letters, there are two words in the clue. The last words to end of a fairy tale’. Well if you must have the last word, the fairy tale relationship is, all over, no all over is only seven letters, but it is all over if you always have the last word.

Another building in the same area.

Another building planted close by.

Fairy Tales have happy endings, happy endings has too many letters. The last words of all fairy tales, is they all lived happily ever after. That is, the last words to end a fairy tale. Ever after I can’t add an s so I am one letter short.  I Tried but I failed but I did not fail to try.

These buildings grow on you.

I need a little help from my friends. What is the very end of a fairy tale? Two words nine letters.

How to think.

Looking for smile.

Looking for a smile.

I have to weed the garden. That is not how to think. Think in a positive way. You do not have to weed the garden, natures garden is growing nicely without my interference. You may think the garden needs some tender loving care, I need some exercise and fresh air.

 Unnoticed, but cows appreciate.

Unnoticed, but cows appreciate.

Do not see weeds, see flowers growing out-of-place. Take a thoughtful look at the Dandelion. It is a beautiful example of what some people dismiss as an invasive weed. Yet a child loves the yellow flowers to make a daisy chain and is delighted to blow the seed heads everywhere.

Look at me, please.

Look at me, please.

Time is not important to a child. The Dandelion clock is a child’s toy. A child picks the seed head, parachute ball, holds it close to the lips and puffs, saying one o’clock, this is a stubborn one, try again, two o’clock and some of the little parachutes float off on the breeze to distant fields. The child puffs again three o’clock and in this way joy is spread far and wide.

A little help from a friend.

A little help from a friend.

A lover may blow the seeds to carry a host of heart-felt wishes to a distant loved one. My wish is when you read this you recall those Dandelion days.

Spreading happiness.

Spreading happiness.

The Dandelion is a joy and grows all over the world. I read it is a native to Eurasia, botanical name Taraxacum, family Asteraceae, It has grown in Eurasia for thirty thousand years.

Why do some judgemental people call it a weed? They get all upset because they cannot go with the flow of nature. The right attitude is to not be so judgemental and appreciate all the free gifts of nature

I am not saying you should not have favourites and do some selective gardening. Only do not let it become a chore. I am not afraid of hard work; I could lie down beside it and go to sleep. Cultivated flowers are beautiful, still we should also appreciate the free gifts.

Escapees hiding in the wild clover.

Escapees hiding in the wild clover.

Be observant consider all the Dandelions attributes. Bright yellow flower heads with hundreds of florets, then those superbly designed seed heads are to be appreciated. The glorious green leaves.

Bees love me.

Bees love me.

Dandelion is a corruption of the French name Dent de Lion meaning Lions tooth. Dandelion lions are more than eye candy; they are a food full of vitamins and minerals. The ground up root makes a caffeine free coffee and their leaves are nourishing, they can be blanched to take away the sharp taste, and the flowers are used in wine.

A perfect design.

A perfect design.

What are your thoughts on Dandelions?

Van Gogh was sun flowers, I am crazy about Dandelions.

Van Gogh was Sun flowers, I am crazy about Dandelions.

Do you see them as invasive weeds?

Sorry I love them.

Sorry I love them.

There are many pleasures in this wonderful world, earthing out barefoot in a field of Dandelions, counting your blessings, making a thousand wishes and blowing those seeds of joy to the wind. To land on someone in need of kindness, these are real pleasure.

They blow me away, as trey say.

They blow me away, as they say.

We are shaped by our thoughts, we become as we think. When the mind is pure, joy flows like a mountain stream, bubbling with exuberant enthusiasm. Stress is not the heavy traffic, the barking dog or challenging work. Stress is our thoughts about them.

Windows and views.

There is no end to the different ways of look at windows and photographing them. If we use our imagination photography is an art and a way to show others something they may not notice. So I have chosen for Dawn’s “Lingering look at windows.” a variety of thing we can see looking at windows and out of windows and the varied designs of windows, how windows often reflect like a mirror and how abstract compositions can be made using windows. My photos are not the high quality of a professional photographer but I hope they can give ideas for others to follow-up.

Often we are critical of a photo that may be a bit out of focus and miss its other qualities. A judgmental approach to all things in life hampers our ability of enjoyment. We are given the wrong message as children when we are told you have to do better. Top of the class second place is no good. We should be told do your best and enjoy what you are doing, stay focused and keep practicing. You can only do your best.

I paid my three sons a wage for helping me do the work in running our home. They each got the same wage and my eldest son thought he should get more than his brothers because he did more work. I asked him was he doing his best and if his brothers were doing their best. “Yes” he said to both questions. “That is good, because that is what you are being paid to do, no one can be expected to anymore.” My answer satisfied him but I gave them all an increase. They were earning it and they all have grown up able to look after themselves.

Everything you do should be your best but that does not mean you have to make it a chore. People say to children do your chores or you will get no pocket-money. The definition of a chore is an unpleasant task. My sons felt grown up they were paid a wage for working and the work was challenging for boys but the rewards were worthwhile.

What has all this got to do with windows? Everything is interrelated, I will explain that some other time. I have already wandered away from the window and my view is lost. Getting back to the window, my view is do your best have a go and enjoy your view.

This is different.

This is different.

Doodle Landscape.

Doodle Landscape.

In drawing as in life we learn from our mistakes. Mistakes are often made when we fail to clearly see things as they are. Look carefully at all the angles look at the negative and the positive shapes; compare the way things relate to one another. Notice these things in drawing and life. Cameras capturing life in a moment, you reflect on the result later. When sketching you are fully absorbed in the now observing the detail. You are trying to capture what you personally see and feel about the subject. There is no room for outside thoughts and distractions. This is an experience like meditation you are totally focused on the subject. Photography can help you notice things and also be interesting. With drawing you have artistic license, a quality a camera lacks.

When traveling, while I wait for transport or meals, sketching is a way to pass the time. A few scribbled words can be added and you have a record of your journey. It is a better way of helping you recall your travels and liven up your diary. I think I first started doing this on a trip to Thailand. If I do not have a sketch pad I draw on whatever is available. But if you do not keep your sketches in order it is not long before they go astray.  Sketches saved in a pad, though not works of art, I find are like Tony Buzan’s Mind Maps.

Photography is good, but it lacks the satisfaction you get when sketching.

I bought a digital camera and it is so easy to take photos with automatic settings and the computer is better than a well equipped dark room. This is cost-effective and comparatively easy. Consequently my interested in learning digital photography like the computer became almost an addiction. I am spoiled with too many wonderful things and new tempting advancements coming on the market every day. I must remind myself these things are not necessities; I can always pick up a pencil and sketch.

Looking for love. pencle.

Looking for love. penile.

I enjoy trying to keep up with the new technology, but no one can master, or afford all that is on offer. If the cost becomes a problem, I will be back to the sketch pad and pencils. We do not need all the latest tempting things advertised on TV. Material things do not bring lasting happiness. Because they need maintenance and become obsolete, breakdown, wear out and are expensive. A sketch pad and pencils is affordable and less hassle.

If uninspired it can still be an 'Amazing Doodle.'

If uninspired it can still be a ‘Amazing Doodle.’

Some things we need and some things we just want.

Making decisions in life and drawing you look at the angles and the negative and the positive.  These are decision not to be made without comparing how one thing relates to another. You also need to learn from role-models. In life it is someone honorable you learn from. In art it is all those renowned people whose work we see in art galleries and books. There are libraries full of books on good examples in art and life. Drawing leads us to an expanding education. Not only using books, we now have our PC and all it has to offer like Google and Wikipedia.

Perspective, your view-point, the tone of things, the contrast, the flow the movement, the medium and the composition are all involved. The world of art starts with drawing and what a wonderful world to explore. It is not a matter of how talented you are it is what you learn when you try to do anything. Appreciation, and understanding come only from doing it, practice brings perfection.

 The Facts.

Can you understand this writing.

It is difficult to write our thoughts and convey the ideas we have in our mind. It is even harder to find the right words when speaking. Without time to think we comment on subjects that we have no firsthand knowledge of. We often accept things we read or hear without a thought as to the origin. Then confidently repeat something totally ignorant of the validity of what we are saying. When someone disagrees with us the ego wants to step in and argue. I have said and argued without thinking many times and have to be mindful when socializing or I still fall into this trap. Once something is said unlike the written word there is no deleting or erasing, no second thoughts.

See no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil.

Four of the steps on the Buddha’s Eight Fold Path are, Right understanding. Right thoughts and Right speech, steps we have to be mindful of, or fall into this trap. Right mindfulness is another important step on the path to enlightenment. The distractions of life make it so easy to stray from the path.

One of the many Buddha statues in Thailand.

Life can be fully enjoyed when we realize the true nature of things. One of the things we must be aware of is all things are subject to change. The beautiful flower soon withers and becomes compost to nourish new life. Picking and clinging to the flower will not change natures plan, it is beyond our control and to fight this only brings us pain. This is the nature of things, we must cooperate.

To love anything is a joy, but to cling to love is a mistake. The people we love are capable of hurting us the most, when we are separated from them we worry or miss them, there is always this down side to life. Our children grow up; we must let them go as we do not own them. In fact we do not own anything it is all on loan, when, like the flower, our life is over, we will become food for new life. Are you thinking Jack is full of what is good for the garden?

Hear no evil, do no evil, speak no evil, see no evil.

We can have all the joy, happiness and pleasure and less unhappiness when we realize there is a price to pay for everything and it is not in dollar bills we pay, it is in good deeds, kindness and compassion. Life is a garden; whatever you put into it is what you will get out of it. Wanting all those material things will not bring contentment, they only bring a fleeting happiness, then the realization of their downside, they need maintenance, storage, they chip, dent, wear out, need I go on. We do not want all the down side, all the problems, and try to avoid them. Life is one thing after another, we are always wanting or avoiding, running to or from, never contented.

Monkey business, you can’t win them all.

Pleasures lift you up and then they drop you down, the higher you go, the further you fall. Calm is not very exciting, actually boring to youth, they still, usually, have the resilience to rebound. What a dull world without that youthful, exuberant energy. As the joints lose their flexibility and spring we like tranquility. The old need to make some allowance for youth and remember when they were young. The young have no personal experience of the ravages of time on the human body. Actually they have not had much experience at all and what experience they have had is unlike previous generations. So pleasure is a youthful thing.

A pleasure to see.

Happiness, we all like to be happy, we strive to be happy, and we work and toil to be happy. Ironically, chasing after happiness, we miss the happiness now. Happiness has to be experienced in the now. If you are happy in your occupation you will never have to toil. Work is a joy if we regard it in the right way, by taking a pride in what we are doing and not rushing to finish it to do something else.

Marvelous, every leaf the same.

To provide your needs, find a job that will promote good and benefit all. Do it to the best of your ability, it will bring you rewards that money cannot buy, satisfaction, respect, trust and friends. Happiness depends on the now and the circumstances prevailing, sometimes things are beyond our control and happiness will not always happen. Happiness is more reliant on the outside. Contentment is a state of mind even when adversity challenges us we can overcome it with the right attitude.

To lose something we value is bad but not to accept the loss and fret about it is only compounding the pain. We can be in pain but we do not have to suffer.

Another of natures perfect pattern.

Contentment is the greatest happiness. Health is the greatest wealth. Love is the greatest conqueror. Understanding is the greatest.

Be happy in your work.

Nature Lover.

When I refer to nature I am referring to the world and its natural occurring phenomena together with all the physical laws that govern them. Nature is the qualities found in all things. When we experience nature uninfluenced by civilization it is a truly spiritual encounter. To take the time to quietly study nature’s wondrous achievements is uplifting. To have no time to appreciate nature is to miss life’s greatest free gifts.

Garden Poppy.

To ignore nature’s beauty is to insult the creator, who or whatever you believe the creator to be. Pantheists hold the view that nature and God are identical; we will not get sidetracked discussing these issues. The wonders and beauty of nature can fill volumes, I will only touch on a few interesting attributes of nature.

Trees have bark patterns.

No human artist can surpass nature’s beauty and perfection in any medium.   The joy of natures patterns both abstract and real are beyond mans capabilities. There are also the cyclic patterns of day and night, the phases of the moon, the seasons. The orbits of the stars and planets all precisely coordinated in the vastness of space and time, without a fraction of error.  Allowing plants to grow and animals to live, making our existence possible.

Blossom

There are spatial patterns working to beautiful numerical patterns often to a Fibonacci series of nembers. Fibonacci numbers are formed by adding the two previous numbers to make the next in the series eg. 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21… What often looks random in nature on closer inspection is a pattern some are obvious others are not so easily seen because of distortions from accidental interference.

Branching trees like rivers do.

By studying nature’s patterns it is obvious how our world, our fellow creatures and our selves are all interconnected and interdependent. There is a chain of circumstances, if one link is damaged it weakens the whole chain. We are becoming aware of the effects of interfering with natures balance.

Blossom.

The industrial age dominated by a capitalist system gave birth to the throwaway society and the breakdown of family life. While our economic system is based on production and profit rather than conserving and making things that last, we cannot stop the damage. We are encouraged by advertising to buy things we do not need and in many cases we cannot afford. This forms a vicious circle to work harder, to produce more to earn money to buy more things to complicate our life. If you watch T.V. pick your programs carefully and mute the advertisings.

Let us get back a little closer to nature. Take a break find a quiet place in a park where the birds still sing. Just sit a while and enjoy making shapes out of the clouds. Get up early not to go to work but to watch the sun rise. Stay up late not to party but to walk beneath the stars. Slow down take a deep breath and enjoy nature. Take off your shoes earth out, on a sandy beach or paddle in a puddle.

Sorry the puddle is dry.

You have the time if you dispose of that T.V. and are then not tempted by those rude T.V. commercials. I say rude because they interrupt a program you are watching to sell things. Come on live your life; you are missing out on life, watching some actor live a fantasy life for you. You can starve to death watching an actor eat for you.

Something nice caught my eye.

Sunrise on the Gold Coast.

The Pantheist.

At the closing of the day nature often gives a spectacular display. To quietly watch the sunset is one of nature’s many magnificent gifts. To quietly focus on the shapes and colours of the clouds, relaxes, rejuvenates us freeing our mind of stress. We often forget, neglecting to appreciate what is freely given.

Nature has no ego to feel insulted and threaten punishment for our insults to Gods beautiful gifts. If we would rather admire man made things, or watch T.V. or make money our god. Nature goes her impartial way; the loss is ours, just another one of nature’s automatic laws.

Paddle your feet.

To get away from the pressures of town, we find peace where we can, earth-out,    paddle bare-foot in the shallow water by the sea, or in a forest stream, or in a puddle as a child would, is a simple pleasure often unrealized by adults.

We do not have to meditate on a mountain top. Our mind can be stilled and our body rejuvenated by time spent in quiet contemplation close to nature’s virgin wonderland. Hearing sounds, seeing visual displays and marveling at the complex system that keeps this ever changing, environmental system in balance, actually the whole cosmos in equilibrium.

W,A. wild flower.

Spirals, eddies, meanders, fractals, trees branching and Fabonacci spiral sequences are all part of natures functional application, of mathematics and physics, where space and time are controlled, using minimal space and effort. Man has only copied from nature and our achievements are only child-like in comparison to nature’s example.

Both flower and seed pod are beautifully aranged.

Though I try, all this complexity is beyond my comprehension. So I just show my respect and admiration as often as I can. In return nature gives me rewards of peace and pleasure. The day will eventually come when I will reluctantly have to leave these marvelous gifts.

The river meanders far below.

I will return to where I came from, as nothing is wasted or destroyed in nature, it only changes and reforms. I may fly with dust-mites in the air, or reappear anywhere. This is why we need a belief in some supreme Force a Tao a God or something to pin our hope on.

Dead branches make beautiful petterns.

“Enter the Eight Fold Path and put an end to sorrow.” The Buddha said.

The path is not easy to follow it takes understanding, perseverance and self discipline. Each person must work out his or her own salvation,       without divine aid.

The Buddha said: “By oneself alone is evil done, by oneself is one defiled.By oneseff is evil avoided,by oneself  is one purified, impurity depends on oneself, no one can purify another.”

Right understanding is the first step on the Eight Fold Path. To understand The Four Noble Truths is right understanding. The first truth is life is dukkha, dukkha has no equivalent meaning in English, to describe it as pain and suffering is misleading.  Life is unsatisfactory because every thing in life is subject to change, because of this fact nothing gives us permanent satisfaction. Not realising this we want and cling to impermanent things, this is the cause of much of our pain and sorrow.

The second noble truth:  the cause of suffering is ignorance, greedily wanting and clinging to pleasurable things, and fearing and avoiding the opposite, causing suffering.

The third noble truth:  there is a remedy to these problems.

The fourth noble truth: to follow the Eight fold Path. Some times called the Middle way because it is a way of moderation and balance. the Buddha knew from experience that a life of indulgence did not bring contentment and a life of abstinence and suffering did not bring salvation. after questioning and searching and meditating, stilling his mind, applying deep thought, The Buddha came to true understanding or enlightenment, the basic truth and the ethical path that leads to the end of sorrow.

There is nothing supernatural about this. Over the years folk laws have been built up around the Buddha and his teaching by his followers. The Buddha said ” do not follow my teaching without question. Follow follow truth and goodness where ever it be found”.

No need to dye it.

No need to diet just keep in balance with nature. The amount of food you eat should be balanced with the amount of excise you do.

Just as there is no need to dye natures food, its colour is beautiful without artificial colouring.

Don’t attack your food, take the time to enjoy the natural colour, design,  aroma and flavour of food.

The dining table is not a race track or battle field, savour what you eat.

Don’t swallow before you have relished the texture and flavour don’t take another bite till you have chewed every last morsel.

This is mindful eating, living in the moment, not hurrying with your mind on something else.

The simple joy of life is to be fully engaged in what you are engaged in, not wanting to be in some other place or doing some thing else.

Life  is not about quantity it is about quality, it is appreciating and enjoying without greed.

Imagine if you had never eaten this food before and you will never experience it again.

Natures food is superb look at the colour , design and patterns when you cut fruit and vegetables,

I am not going to discuss cutting up meat I see no pleasure in that.

Eat to live don’t live to eat.

Natures design.
