Walking .

Pauline & camera New Zealand.

Pauline & camera New Zealand.

Taking your camera for a walk is a great way to get you going, motivated to get out walking. A dog is another way. I see lots of happy dogs on my walks. They are loved and are not just kept as Guard dogs. Although some sensible ladies have a dog so they can do their jogging in secluded places in safety.

Surf Girl out to catch a wave.

Looking at statistics not many get molested out jogging it is the ones that are out late partying that run the bigger risk.

Letting the world catch up.

Letting the world catch up.

Dogs enjoy exercise and thrive on love, who doesn’t? Dogs that miss out on love and exercise bark at every thing, so do humans.

Enjoy the view Mt Taronga.

Other things I see are people meditating, fishing and taking their surf board out. There are lots of things to get one percolating. Art gets Zeebra going and Zeebra’s art got Pauline going and I go back into it too. I used to use my sketching to supplement the writing in my diary when I travelled. But the digital camera made it too easy.

Catching the sun rise.

Catching the sun rise.

I have never been good at writing that is why the blog is good for me it helped improve my writing. Now having a sketch pad and pencil or a good book, not necessarily “the good book”, is a good way to fill in time while waiting. Pauline’s art is really good she sold three at the exhibition the art group put on.  Only one of mine sold I think who ever bought it probably liked the subject.

Natures pictures get a lots of people going.

Nature’s pictures get a lot of people going on Mt Maunganui.

They say you should dance like nobody is watching. Sing like no one can hear you and love like you have never been hurt, I changed the last line of that quote to, like there is no tomorrow. Well I draw like no one is going to see it except my friends. Friends always say kind things and who cares what the others say. Yet the critics can tell us where we are going wrong.

Worth the effort.

Worth the effort.

So do not get upset at criticism or annoyed when you hear a dog bark they are trying to tell us something. We should enjoy whatever we are doing it is all exercise that our body needs, now machines are doing all the heavy work and starting to do a lot of the pleasurable activity too. Technology can steel a lot of the craftsman-ship we once took pride in. Balance is needed in all we encounter.

I am wandering, ambling, straying off the walking path. It is human to err and not a big problem if once we realise we have been lead off the path we get back on the right path. I will never be lost because home is where I hang my hat.

A nice way to great the day.

A nice way to greet the day.

Wish You Were Here in Tauranga.

Through the rose garden seats views the sunrise over the harbour..

Through the rose garden to the seats with views of the sunrise over the harbour..

Up early to catch the sun rise and instead of a dog I will take my camera. Today we are driving back to Laurence’s farm at Waiuku from Jackie’s place at Tauranga. It will be a laid back, lazy car day so a morning walk will do me good.

They are planning an unsuccessful escape.

They are planning an unsuccessful escape.

The photography this morning was not spectacular but there are always surprises when in unfamiliar territory. There were people doing their boot camp fitness. They needed two coaches to motivate them. It reminded me of a scene from the movie “Cool Hand Luke”, where Paul Newman is working in a chain gang with a guard standing over them.  I could not take any more photos because of the flat camera battery.  I was getting hungry, so returned to find the others were still in bed asleep. I was locked out they could not hear the doorbell. They say problems come in threes. So at the risk of some good neighbour ringing the police I climb over the wall and knock on Pauline’s window. No police, so it looks like I may have a slight delay before the next inevitable mishap.

Pauline, Jackie and Greg with Ringo.

Greg made scrambled eggs and tomatoes, a pleasant change from our usual fruit muesli and yogurt. It was delicious Kai, that’s the Maori word for food, the Aussie word is tucker. If you want interesting history, geography and educational information hit on Pauline’s blog. You will not find much in mine.

These tourists asked the right bloke to take their photo.

These tourists asked the right bloke to take their photo.

Pauline decided to take an alternative route back. That took us via Matamata where the movie “Lord of the Rings” was made. We had previously visited the film site see it here. This time the town was our main focus. It was really pleasant, both people and the unique way they presented and displayed what they had to offer.

The box like table is made from an old wood press.

Shops in N.Z. are a work of art and the quality of N.Z. products, both factory and hand crafted, are quality. We had morning tea, actually cappuccino, with a date scone and a muffin. As usual we ate Chinese style that is we shared our cakes. That is our way of not over eating but sampling more of the tasty treats.

I liked this display, done by the shop owners daughter.

We called in to see Linda, the naturopath that gave me good advice and fixed some of my injuries. Linda was not in, well that is good if you believe things happen in threes. So we stop along the driveway to take photos of the old farm workers cottage.

Our trysting place back in March 1982.

Our trysting place back in March 1982.

The neighbouring farmer came over to check us out and told us Linda was in America on a business trip.

The neighbourhood watch is active out here.

Pauline chatted with the farmer about the changes on the farm since she was there, in the late 1970’s. That was when Gran and Pa ran the farm with Pauline helping out in exchange for accommodation in the farm cottage.  Pauline was working in shopping centres all around Auckland photographing babies for Milestone. A car and trailer went with the job and with no rent to pay she was saving up to do an overseas trip. Now her children had left home Laurence working and Jackie at university.

Can you guess why it was not a fast trip?

Can you guess why it was not a fast trip?

Then I got into the act, that was 33 years ago. I had a house in Hamilton and was working on Muldoon’s think big scheme. Rightly or wrongly Muldoon as Prime Minister developed N.Z. Industry, but put the country in debt doing it.

Flowers on the farm driveway. will Pauline post this photo.

Flowers on the farm driveway. will Pauline post the photo she is taking.

Those were the days. I got to know that road between Hamilton and the farm pretty well. Pauline showed me some beautiful things about farm life. It was amazing seeing cows breathing out steam in the crisp early morning light. It is no wonder she said she could never live in the city.

Sharing up our lunch.

It is still beautiful out on the farm, especially this time of year with all the dandelions, buttercups and farm feral flowers flourishing.

The road to Hamilton is still the same, all farm land. We turn off to go to Waiuku, stopping for another tasty treat at the Tree Garden Cafe and of course our camera, clicking like crazy to share our good times with you.

My foot in on a wonderful world.

My foot in on a wonderful world.

Tolerance and respect..

on Newtons recommendation I am off to see the sea.

On Newtons recommendation I am off to see the sea.

I am not as clever as some may think so writing my blog is a challenge. Everything I write has been picked up from other people. Throughout my working career I took notice of those with the knowhow. Also I learned the value of nonfiction books. In recreational activities every skill that would help me in what I was trying to achieve, I would swat up on. No one can claim to be a self-made man.

As Sir Isaac Newton in 1679 is quoted as saying in a letter to Robert Hooke, “If I have seen further than others it was by standing on the shoulders of giants.” A similar observation was made earlier in 1159 by John of Salisbury in a book, written in Latin translated as. “We are like dwarfs sitting on the shoulders of giants.”

I am so fortunate.

I am so fortunate.

So we have a lot to thank those that showed us the way. Lau Tzu showed me one Way, Buddha showed me another Path. My belief is, whatever religious differences we have, we must practice tolerance and respect for others beliefs. Even if we cannot accept it all, there will be a lot we can agree on.

All major religions preach loving kindness, morality and generosity. If we have faith in a God we should show our faith by keeping his commandments and not take over the divine reins of life and death. If you have faith and trust there is no need to take over this responsibility. Let your God do the driving, you have not got a licence to kill. This would be the right way to promote your religion.

Writing my blog required me to revise my ideas and rethink everything. This gave me a clearer understanding in my own mind. Owing to practically no schooling the English language was another learning curve. A blog is a lot more difficult than a job report. Even then I always had a dictionary on hand.

Clear water at Tallebudgera Creek bridge.

Clear water at Tallebudgera Creek bridge.

There is an incident that demonstrates this. At a meeting one of the engineers criticised my spelling. I immediately replied “I will scribble my report in future then the spelling will be less of a problem.” His writing was as difficult to decipher as a doctor’s prescription.

Everything changes look at the sky.

Everything changes look at the sky.

My blog helps me improve in more ways than one. Everything I decide to do is a benefit to me. If reading my blog inspires others to follow what I have found beneficial, that is a bonus.

On rush if it rains before I get home, it is not cold.

No rush if it rains before I get home, it is not cold.

That prompts another quote, from Little John Salisbury.”One who comprehends truth is wise. One who loves truth is good. One who orders his life by truth is happy”.

Buddhism reminds us of a universal truth “Everything is subject to change.” Aware of that truth will help you improve your happiness. As you will accept change and not cling to passing things.

There is a lot I still have to pick up, while wandering along the vast ocean seashore. That is a more enjoyable pass-time than blogging. The sun is shining the surf is rolling in I am on my bike to enjoy these gifts of nature , have a nice day see you later.

Possessions weigh you down and slow your pace.

This is the greatest problem for the human race.

Because of baggage and needless fuss.

Do not grasp and cling to life in this way

Experience life’s joy, make it a holiday.

It does not matter if you walk or go by plane.

It’s the path you choose that makes it joy or pain.

Kindness, caring, hugs and maybe a kiss,

Is the way to fill your life with mostly bliss.

It’s how much joy and happiness you bring.

My cups full and running over. I am aware of all the good things in my life. All the free gifts bestowed on me by Mother Nature. Life is full of joy. What do I need, I all I need is the air I breath, food and shelter from the elements. I want for nothing, therefore I have it all.

To want is to invite trouble. If you get what you want the pleasure soon passes. Everything is changing, rearranging, growing old, wearing out. Nothing remains the same.

See the bee flying past.

The beauty of life is, everything is passing. All we have is the now. This moment in time to make count. Be mindful of now, the most important thing is what you are involved in now. Pay attention, the most important person is the one you are with now.

Clouds depart, flowers soon die, that's the way it is.

Clouds depart, flowers soon die, that’s the way it is.

So when the storm clouds gather and life is not all good, remember the clouds will blow away revealing a sunny day. You can count on them passing.

Yellow, blue, green and the prettiest clouds I have seen.

Yellow, blue, green and the prettiest clouds I have seen.

Into our life some rain must fall. Without the rain the flowers cannot grow. we must have the down to know what’s up, We must have the right to know what’s left. Do not be distressed it does not last, all that’s now will soon be past. Don’t be sad take the good with the bad. Things are just as they are. Make your days count and it will all add up to the right change.

Tan Mr Cool.

Tan the man, Mr Cool.

The Ice Dragon.

Early stages.

Early stages.

A slim Asian man looking after a photography exhibition at Robina library complex asked me which photograph I thought was the best. I chose a clear crisp picture of a white cockatoo in flight. He said “Thank you my name is Tan.” I introduced myself and we discussed photography. I then realized Tan had taken that photo. He shared his lunch of berries and vegetarian treats, a delightful change to my usual lunch.

Chain saw rips into the ice.

Chain saw rips into the ice.

That is how we became friends. Tan was very generous giving not only material things he shared his wisdom with me.

Taking shape hours of artistic action.

Taking shape hours of artistic action.

I think Tan had suffered a lot of racial prejudice, probably because of his talent and good ethics. Also Tan would not bend to please bigots or fools.
Visiting the Buddha’s Birthday celebrations at Southbank, Brisbane, I was surprised to find Tan carving a large dragon out of ice using power tools. Just another one of Tan’s many talents.

Detail.

Detail.

The picture of me and the Ice Dragon hangs in my room reminding me of many things. I learned from Tan and the Ice Dragon.
Our paths meet up only occasionally. Men rarely keep in contact but no matter how long it is when they meet again it is like yesterday.

The tail.

Detail now the tail.

Voyaging on the vast ocean of life ships may sail together in a fleet for a time then drift apart.  Reciprocity and commitment is needed for people to stay together for any length of time. If we are fortunate sailing in the same direction we find good company.
If the company is really good  we change course. So if you are fortunate enough to find a really compatible companion appreciate and change your way to suit. The scenic route may be longer but more enjoyable.

Tan was fully in the now.

Tan was fully in the now.

The photo of the Ice Sculpture Dragon reminds me.

Out of the ice the dragon appears.

Out of the ice the dragon appears

Born in fire and made of clay.

I thought myself very clever.

To make a dragon that would last forever.

Your ice dragon will not last

But you are wise as well as clever,

Giving is how you get your pleasure.

Better and bibber than the pottery I did.

Better and bigger than the pottery dragon I did.

We are aware an ice sculpture will melt and appreciate its beauty without clinging.

Tan smiles at his achievement.

Tan smiles at his achievement.

It is not so obvious that all things change regardless of what they are made of.

The ice dragon made me more aware as it melted, that the joy of doing anything is to be absorbed in the delight of doing.

I no longer cling to my pottery dragon it has shattered. Not a smooth expected transition like the beautiful ice dragon as it melting.

I asked for a pose.

I asked for a pose.

We cling to a fragile memory that time will inevitably consume.

Reluctantly we must let our past slip into the abyss of time. Time is the ultimate winner.

The ice dragon teaches pleasure is doing,

joy is giving and that sorrow of cling.

This is my reminder of impermanence motivates me.

This is my reminder of impermanence that motivates me.

You don’t have to die to go to heaven I am in heaven, live and pumping. I am back home on the Gold Coast biking down to the beach. There is about 20 km in  both directions from Burleigh of flat bike track adjacent to a string of beaches. I have been about six months without my pushbike and it is good to be back in the saddle and visiting my favourite gym just across the road from Burleigh beach.
There are beaches from Surfers Paradise, a tourist play ground, to Coolangatta and further on north and south.

This post is in the Tweed Valley a short drive from the beaches.

This house is in the Tweed Valley a short drive from the beaches.

It is call the Gold Coast because of the golden sand, or is it because of the bustling entertainment and commercial interest there.
This is the best of both worlds the American style theme parks and then there is the lush hinterland rain forest, the high escarpment has beautiful views of the coast.
It is only a short drive to Tweed with its lush World Heritage rain forests and dramatic mountain ranges and more unspoiled world-famous surfing point breaks beaches.

Yesterday we, with friends, visited a remarkable art gallery nestled in the beautiful Tweed Valley. Visit Pauline’s blog to get a detailed view of this gallery.

As usual I got carried away, inspired by the project. I joined in the fun like all the other children.

I was feeling so inspired, encouraged by our two, too kind friends while waiting for lunch, I did some sketching.  Also for inspiration see Zeebra post for inspirational people.

We are now planning to do some trips back into the area to practice our art. As June is very talented and as you probably know Pauline has created some really beautiful paintings. As for Rex we will supply him with the equipment and we may get a surprise.
I will keep you posted and so will our pommepal.

All colours are beautiful.

All colours are beautiful.

We are one but we are many.

"Smile Sweetie you are on 'candid camera'. so are you baby."

“Smile Sweetie you are on ‘candid camera’. so are you baby.”

The Canberra Floriade was a joy not only because of the flowers. The weather was perfectly  tempered warm sunshine. That made the flowers dazzlingly brilliant in a beautiful area by the lake. Everyone was in a friendly mood that match this spectacular free show.

Life is a picnic to enjoy.

Life is a picnic to enjoy.

There were people from many different lands all mixing friendly and happily. Australia is a multi-cultural land. I was reminded of the song ” We Are One But We Are Many”.

Their love shows.

Their love shows.

I took almost as many photos of people as flowers. Because I knew I would do a post showing how we are really all brothers and sisters.

They are bubbling with love.

They are bubbling with love.

We all enjoy  Natures beauty, we all feel the same joys and the same sorrows.

It is times like the Floriade that we forget our problem and unite in the appreciation of our good fortune.

I hope this post with my poem spreads the goodwill felt on this wonderful occasion.

A loving scene.

A loving scene.

 Consider, Consideration.

Beautiful flowers every to look at.

Beautiful flowers every to look at.

No one is bad for having a different view.

I do not want to change the world it is such a lovely place.

There is something we may want to change and that’s the human race.

Slow down life is not a race,

we all end up in the same place.

This was taken at the National War Museum.

This was taken at the National War Museum.

If I raise my voice in an angry shout,

Tell the people what it’s all about.

To argue fight protest and start a war.

These things have all been done before.

To let them be is a good decision.

There can be no war without division.

Slow down and enjoy.

Slow down and enjoy.

The whole cosmos is interconnected,

This is a thought to be reflected.

All that is needed is to love one another.

Then a wonderful world we discover.

In nature everything changes,

Nothing is lost it just rearranges.

Our body consists of atoms of matter,

When we die those atoms scatter.

Smiling beautifully.

Smiling beautifully.

Wasting time grieving about anger, envy and hate.

Enjoy this fleeting world before it is too late.

Unbiased living, loving, kind and caring.

Appreciate the world we are sharing.

Carried away with flowers.

Carried away with flowers.

Chew on these words of nourishment.

Changing ourselves should be our intent.

We cannot force other people to agree.

Show by your example for them to see.

A load of beautiful flowers.

A load of beautiful flowers.

With this understanding of life,

We are free from trouble and strife.

There is no problem in the world it is in us.

A change of attitude stops the fear and fuss.

Love is every where.

Love is everywhere.

Improve yourself every day.

To show the world a better way

If some are too ignorant to see.

It is their problem, do you agree?

If you know of a better way,

Please do not hesitate to say.

Enjoying life with out a care.

Enjoying life with out a care.

We must stay calm to hear another person’s views.

Be unemotional and put ourselves in the others shoes.

If we could stand in their position.

There would be a whole transition.

Our view would alter in perspective.

We would become more reflective.

He looks happy has he found contentment?

He looks happy has he found contentment?

We do not have to agree,

Only understand and see.

No one is bad for having a different view.

It becomes a problem when forced on you.

Love flowers every where.

Love flowers everywhere.

One must consider with an open mind.

Leaving judgemental prejudices behind.

Weigh up the facts then understand,

You are now right the world is grand.

Happy serving lunch a great attitude.

Happy serving lunch a great attitude.

Take time to consider and appreciate the other side of the equation.

Love, compassion and consideration are all that is needed as persuasion.

How to think.

Looking for smile.

Looking for a smile.

I have to weed the garden. That is not how to think. Think in a positive way. You do not have to weed the garden, natures garden is growing nicely without my interference. You may think the garden needs some tender loving care, I need some exercise and fresh air.

 Unnoticed, but cows appreciate.

Unnoticed, but cows appreciate.

Do not see weeds, see flowers growing out-of-place. Take a thoughtful look at the Dandelion. It is a beautiful example of what some people dismiss as an invasive weed. Yet a child loves the yellow flowers to make a daisy chain and is delighted to blow the seed heads everywhere.

Look at me, please.

Look at me, please.

Time is not important to a child. The Dandelion clock is a child’s toy. A child picks the seed head, parachute ball, holds it close to the lips and puffs, saying one o’clock, this is a stubborn one, try again, two o’clock and some of the little parachutes float off on the breeze to distant fields. The child puffs again three o’clock and in this way joy is spread far and wide.

A little help from a friend.

A little help from a friend.

A lover may blow the seeds to carry a host of heart-felt wishes to a distant loved one. My wish is when you read this you recall those Dandelion days.

Spreading happiness.

Spreading happiness.

The Dandelion is a joy and grows all over the world. I read it is a native to Eurasia, botanical name Taraxacum, family Asteraceae, It has grown in Eurasia for thirty thousand years.

Mary Poppins using an umbrella I gave her.

Mary Poppins using an umbrella I gave her.

Why do some judgemental people call it a weed? They get all upset because they cannot go with the flow of nature. The right attitude is to not be so judgemental and appreciate all the free gifts of nature

Ball point on serviette, waiting for lunch in café.

Ball point on serviette, waiting for lunch in café.

I am not saying you should not have favourites and do some selective gardening. Only do not let it become a chore. I am not afraid of hard work; I could lie down beside it and go to sleep. Cultivated flowers are beautiful, still we should also appreciate the free gifts.

Escapees hiding in the wild clover.

Escapees hiding in the wild clover.

Be observant consider all the Dandelions attributes. Bright yellow flower heads with hundreds of florets, then those superbly designed seed heads are to be appreciated. The glorious green leaves.

Bees love me.

Bees love me.

Dandelion is a corruption of the French name Dent de Lion meaning Lions tooth. Dandelion lions are more than eye candy; they are a food full of vitamins and minerals. The ground up root makes a caffeine free coffee and their leaves are nourishing, they can be blanched to take away the sharp taste, and the flowers are used in wine.

A perfect design.

A perfect design.

What are your thoughts on Dandelions?

Van Gogh was sun flowers, I am crazy about Dandelions.

Van Gogh was Sun flowers, I am crazy about Dandelions.

Do you see them as invasive weeds?

Sorry I love them.

Sorry I love them.

There are many pleasures in this wonderful world, earthing out barefoot in a field of Dandelions, counting your blessings, making a thousand wishes and blowing those seeds of joy to the wind. To land on someone in need of kindness, these are real pleasure.

They blow me away, as trey say.

They blow me away, as they say.

We are shaped by our thoughts, we become as we think. When the mind is pure, joy flows like a mountain stream, bubbling with exuberant enthusiasm. Stress is not the heavy traffic, the barking dog or challenging work. Stress is our thoughts about them.

The Way to Go.

Wanting respect is the ego. Earning respect is gratifying; gratitude is appreciation of all the good surrounding us. This good does not come uninvited it must be encouraged by noble effort. Everything is interrelated, every action has a like reaction. Nothing exists alone, everything is interconnected. The ego’s wanting is the cause of our discontent this causes much of our unhappiness. Everything is in the flux of change, this is a natural law. Not to be in tune with this natural flow is to fight with the inevitable. Peace and contentment cannot be found in conflict.

Sharing what I have found helpful, in my life experience and other people’s writing, I would like to pass on to others.  I have found much joy in this troubled world only because I have searched for knowledge. Ignorance is another cause of our sorrow. I have learned in life’s school of personal experience that happiness cannot be found at the expense of the world around us. Now aware that my obsessive desires for the unnecessary things brought costs I had not envisaged.  The cost of storage, maintaining and protecting those unnecessary things added to the initial cost. Extravagance by the greedy creates envy in the needy, gratifying the egos wanting causes much unhappiness.

ATM then shop till you drop.

ATM then shop till you drop.

Caring and sharing and endeavouring to overcome our faults leads to peace and contentment. The quest for peace and contentment should be our lifelong goal. Found by practicing noble ethics from all dogmas. Ethics obscured by religious hierarchies arguing about minor technicalities in their power struggle for supremacy. We must put these differences aside and get to the basic worthy points of agreement.  Equanimity is the ability to remain calm in the midst of turmoil, free from unproductive emotions. The quest to become a better person by learning our faults and trying to stop repeating them should be our reason to live. Pleasures are fleeting, joy and happiness never lasts, peace, contentment and equanimity are a more worthy and lasting goal.

Soft early morning mist.

Soft early morning mist.

This is my belief and I am grateful to have found much more peace and contentment following this philosophy. I may never reach my ultimate goal of perfect peace, contentment and equanimity in my life on earth.  Ironically wanting this state would cause me grief. It is a great quest that keeps me occupied and I know when I transcend this life this perfect state will be reached. Returning to the great unknown from where I came, perhaps returning home to join the vastness of infinity. At the end of my day I will be ready to rest in oblivion or paradise in the unknown.
