Conscious.

Getting a little help from my friends.

Getting a little help from my friends.

How conscious are we of what is happening around us and to us? As we go about our daily lives are we aware of the air we breathe. Deprived of air we immediately realise its importance, till then we leave that to what is known as ‘the reptilian’ brain.  Unconscious of the importance of air we fail to breathe deep unless our activity compels us to breathe deep. This is why physical exertion is important. Our body and mind need activity, we were intended to work for our needs. Up until the last hundred years the majority of people had to work to get their Food and other necessities.

Free as a bird should be.

Free as a bird should be.

Like birds man rose with the sun and after the camp fire died down it was bed time. There were many challengers but life was in tune with nature.  Pleasures were simple and life was slower but never boring.  It took over 500,000 years for man’s way of life to gradually changed. Over the last few hundred years an exponential increase in man’s way of living has happened.  Our life style has outpaced our ability to adapt.  We are on an exciting rollercoaster ride unless we realise the dangers of such a ride. The price of the ride could outweigh its benefits. There are things we must be aware of to avoid a sickening end to our wild rollercoaster ride.

Do not disturb.

.Unmindful we watch television, its distraction leads to our destruction. Consumer society’s high-tech, never-ceasing stimuli, dictating to our emotions, creating desires. Causing wants without a real need, status symbols, to feed an ego hungry for attention. We stagnate like a polluted pool without movement. Our mind polluted by advertising and   our body deteriorating from lack of movement.  We are unconscious of the garbage our mind and body is being fed, rubbish we are told we must have. Are we really tired, or bored and listless? Sometimes we just need to get the blood circulating and some fresh air to shake off the listless feeling.

To get in tune with your true feelings and be aware of what you really need. Barefoot, earth-out, get intimately rooted in nature, at one with the world, as a young child, see things afresh, not second-hand from a lounge chair.  Make your own decision about what you need and do not be told a luxury is a need. We may want luxuries but we do not need them. Are they worth all the precious, irreplaceable time they cost in working, to keep the wheels of commerce turning? Be conscious of the manufactured unnatural environment. This is the cause of many ailments and complications in the modern world.

Home cooked and organic.

Home cooked and organic.

In the past without refrigerators and modern transport man needed stored body fat to carry him through droughts and cold winters. Today one of our most prevalent health problems, in the affluent countries, is obesity . The highly processed foods are not our natural diet. Fast-food full of fat, salt and sugar are served up in giant size helpings. Sugar saturated soft-drinks have become accepted as a replacement for water, pure water is the best health drink. The meat we eat is often reconstituted and the way the animals are confined in factories, force-fed often on steroid. People take more care of the fuel they put into their car than what they fuel their body on.

Life is a gift to be enjoyed by spending it manfully. Consciously aware, immersed in the task at hand.  Life is passing and the sand of time never stops. Do not waste it on an illusion, hurrying to some imagined future that may never be as you envisaged.  It must be spent aware of the present moment as life is lived in the now. The most important thing is the thing you are doing now. The most important person is the one you are with now. Dreaming of the future, fretting over the past or mindlessly being fed a diet of desire from TV commercials. You are unaware of the present, life passes you by, you lose contact with the present, and the gift of life is a present.

This is how I remember it.

This is how I remember it.

Memories of spilt coffee.

Those were the days my friend, we thought they would never end.

Those were the days my friend, we thought they would never end.

It is no good crying over spilt coffee on a white tablecloth. It is bad enough staining the table-cloth without letting it spoil your day. Why worry if you can do something to fix it, there is no problem. If it cannot be fixed worry does no good. This is what you can do about the spilt coffee on the table-cloth; ASAP soak the table-cloth in cold water. Clinging to and fretting over little mishaps is a waste of time. Digging up past memories of misfortune is like exhuming a decomposing corpse; they are better left to rest in peace. Or as the case could be, rest in broken pieces. Nothing lasts forever all is subject to change both the good and the bad.  It is best not to completely forget those misadventures, just do not dwell on them. By not fully forgetting in the future you will spill less coffee.

Let us not forget.

Let us not forget.

I wonder who is kissing her now; I wonder who’s looking into her eyes, telling her lies, breathing sighs. There are those bitter-sweet memories. Let us not get too sentimental or maudlin, that was then, this is now.  By now she is way past those kinds of kisses and has far too many wrinkles to be taken in by blarney. I have never lied; though, I may have handled the truth a little carelessly and that is what spills coffee.

That what how it was, it has all changed.

That’s how it was, it has all changed.

That was yesterday’s bad news. This is the stop-press news, today’s news, and it is all good news. The good news you have been patiently waiting for. It does not matter what the headlines are, it is all good news, if we can accept work as a challenge, or a lesson, or a labour of love. AS when we are good to others we plant a seeds that will feed us in the future. To foster good fortune plant plenty of good seed and care for them with love. The love that does not leaves you wondering who is kissing her now, but the love that is only concerned about her welfare and happiness. Selfless love asks for nothing in return or it becomes a commercial deal.

Forget your age dance with the children.

Forget your age dance with the children.

The PC or iPad are far better than TV, you have more interaction with them. Although they can also be miss used or over used. These are useful things to remember along with the good times. File the other negative memories in a folder with an obscure name so they are difficult to recall. Computer nerds will understand this. Other people who are occupied with something active and invigorating will have the heart pumping, the blood flowing and have no time for remorse. You can work off a lot of tension when you are engaged in physical activity.

Words in a frame, were they ever spoken?

Words in a frame, were they ever spoken?

Actions are more effective than words. You can read a recipe-book full of culinary delights and remain hungry. It is the action when we bite into the food savouring the texture, tasting  and chewing it thoroughly extracting all essence, before letting it slip down the strawberry lane, that our hunger is appeased. It is no good giving words to the starving, or kind thoughts, even prays are useless.

Do all those TV ads satisfy our hunger, all they do is make us want more and feed our greed?

Our world is being hijacked, taken over by commercialism and our mindless inactivity is letting it happen. Open your eyes and open a book and read for a change. You may like to read “Fast Food Nation.” By Eric Schlosser. It spills more than coffee, it spills the beans.

To be always wanting is to be never satisfied.

To be always wanting is to be never satisfied.

Why were they the ‘good old days,’ when I could piss over the moon, (no prostrate problems) no TV, no financial worries? Most of us have fond memories of our childhood activity, think of the simple pleasures we had. Today children are being taken over by TV and molested by advertising. No need to completely give up the things we enjoy just be aware of what is beneficial. By mindlessly sitting and letting big corporate business dictate to us what we must have, makes people want what they don’t needed. You will not spill coffee if, you break the habit, drink a glass of clear water, to flush your system. The caffeine is just waste your system has to expel.

In fear of our fellow man we bread fear in our neighbours.

In fear of our fellow-man we breed fear in our neighbours.

Bad memories can be compensated by a bad memory. Memories are history and the winners record the history and the losers are left with regrets. When history is honestly looked at, were they discoverers or invaders, were they settlers or squatters; are they freedom fighters or vicious, greedy, guerrillas? They were the enemy, why are they now our friends?

If you want to see it from their point of view you have to change your position to see their view-point.

To stand in their position you will have a different perspective or your picture will be distorted. Was it necessary all the carnage, or was it only to promote business, producing bombs to blow up and destroy to create work to rebuild? We must remember, at the end of the day, at the going down of the sun, lest we forget and spill more coffee.

Love to see the beauty of a sunrise but for some it has set.

The words of Uncle sham.

What is for dinner?

What is for dinner?

Uncle Sam never lies; instead he invented a fertilizer and spread it all over the world garden and production flourished. USA, Us of A, us of Australia, have changed the English language, calling this type of fertilizer advertising. As in the conversation Humpty Dumpty had with Alice in. “Through the Looking Glass” by Lewis Carrolls. “When I say a word,” Humpty said in a rather scornful tone, “It means just what I choose it to mean – neither more nor less.” “The question is“said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many things.”

Pauline questions Humpty Dumpty.

Pauline questions Humpty Dumpty.

The slaughter–house was demolished and in its place the abattoir was established. The meat industry still was not happy with sales. Meat processing plant was the phrase adopted, cut short, with a sharp knife, to processing plant. Flesh covered in hair has no resemblance to meat wrapped in plastic. The rainforests in Brazil are becoming grass lands for vast cattle-stations. Livestock use up more than a quarter of the earth’s surface and contribute to polluting precious water systems.

What is for lunch.

What is for lunch.

Ronald McDonald decided to dress up as a clown and put play grounds in his fast food outlets. If we can get the kids in mum and dad will follow. Advertising invades almost every area of our garden. Our only escape is a date with Mother Nature, to meditate and gain control of our thoughts. How much fertilizer can be put on the garden before it destroys our source of nourishment, killing our garden paradise, banishing us once more from Eden? Too much of a good thing is growth without attention to sustainability. There is a difference between useful necessities and luxuries or useless trinkets. We horde and want too much and share too little.

How about that?

How about that?

TV is a habit, especially if you have been on the tread mill all day trying to keep up with the Joneses. Leaving no time to quietly meditate or think is this really a good way to live? The Joneses are not content with all their toys advertising keeps showing them a new and better version they must have. This is dynamic lifter (The trade name for chicken manure) and is being tipped in our lounge rooms via the TV. TV is the secret weapon for the effluent that is spread to the affluent. Politicians keep you in a job so you will keep them in a job. The buy-buy materialistic economy is unsustainable.

I don't want to be The Red Rooster.

I don’t want to be The Red Rooster.

Too exhausted to cook a wholesome meal, take the family to Ronald’s or to Colonel Saunders if you prefer eating dead chicken. There is no cleanup after, just dump all the superfluous packaging in the rubbish bin, if you can muster up the energy. Then home to sit back and watch TV commercials, interrupted by a frivolous show that some viewers value more than the ads. No need to think, the canned-laughter and applause from the studio audience will let you know how to react; they are shown sign boards so they know when to laugh. This is an example of the vicious tread mill where the rodents train for the rat race.

Scrap metal collector.

Scrap metal collector.

The endless growth of materialistic economics combined with the imbalanced distribution to regions where life’s needs are lacking, has caused the increase of global temperatures and hostility between people. Freedom-fighters, guerrilla armies or are they terrorists it depends on whose side you are on. Today let us not call a spade a spade that would be ruled out-of-order. Social justice must prevail. Spade and Sambo are derogatory terms for Afro-American.

Can Barak Obama clean up the mess or is he going to be blamed for the chaos left in the wake of the Bush administration.  Someone is always the fall guy. I would like to see Uncle Sambo out-wit the tiger as in the cartoon link. Those old cartoons full of racial slurs were considered harmless fun by white people. As a child I could not see how harmful and hurtful they were.

All car parts of a days work.

All car parts of a days work.

It is a war of words it takes our mind off the real issues. Words have become weapons of mass deception. Uncle Sam needs you to fight for truth and justice and the American way. Play it again Sam, you cannot have it both ways, it is either truth and justice or the American way. Ironically many Americans would agree, they have lost faith in their political system. Intent on promoting the American way in the world and neglecting the flood banks in New Orleans. Where mother Nature put on a little demonstration of her power.

Just a wave from Nature.

Just a wave from Nature.

Australia is indebted to America, in that it saved us from the Japanese invasion. Supplying us with armaments at a reasonable cost, then when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor they actually entered the war to save Australia. The war took a decided turn when Uncle Sam arrived with the cavalry. In typical Hollywood fashion they were heroes to the rescue, no vengeful motives. Japan was on her last legs when America dropped atomic bombs on two cities that ended the war days, perhaps weeks, quicker than it would have. I am not going to say it was wrong to drop those bombs or the methane bombs on Vietnam or any of the other conflicts Sam has entered into in the name of truth and justice. I do know the armaments industry is big business also the construction industry. Well-off nations are always ready to help rebuild demolished cities and they are conversely expert in demolishing them.

Think food for thought, food for all.

Think food for thought, food for all.

We are all involved in the biggest battle in history. Can America help in the fight Mother Nature has declared on the human race? I do not think we will win without the super powers contributing. The best thing we can do is surrender our materialistic way of life. Giving what is surplus to our needs to those who are ravenous for life’s necessities. Saying the words clean air, food and shelter, will not help one deprived of these necessities. You may give to charities but how much cream is skimmed off your milk of kindness.

All he needs to be happy.

All he needs to be happy.

A cliché is an overused phrase, but often true. Charity begins at home, another is if you want to change the world start with yourself. Try to live an exemplary life, I say try, as I try to follow the Buddha’s wise philosophy and I find it is very easy to step off the path he taught. With all my harsh criticism of Uncle Sam I am no doubt straying, hurting some people’s feelings. But it is the intention more than the action that governs the merit of an action. My intention is not to be hurtful they are ideas to assist people with good intentions, stop and think how can I best help the suffering in the world today. Without violently protesting or getting distressed. It is impossible to win a fight with Mother Nature, we must cooperate. Some of my ideas I hope may be a step on the path to understanding.

Awesome sky, watch it.

The Concrete Jungle, with make up on.

Stop paying, stop buying.

It is a war of commercial bill boards fighting for attention.

The hard steel and concrete edges covered with loudly coloured signs screaming look at me. A jumble of logos in a disordered mess of unrelated things, crying for business buy me, purchase here.

Signs of the times.

And they lie, saying no one asked to buy. Perhaps they would rather you put it on hire purchase as  there is more profit in interest than paying cash. Bright coloured writing of every imaginable text on a contrasting background assault the eye.

Look out, if you can.

The war continues beyond nine to five. The big neon guns hit you in the eyes after dark.

Only the driver needs to see out.

Get out of the war zone head for the hills neutral high ground. Looked on from a safe distance we see things sparklingly bright and clear.

Seoul sells.

We feel at peace in the forest surrounded by soft cool soothing green colours. It is a matter of what we need not what we want and are told we must have.

Ronald starts them young.

Our attitude of how we relate to our surroundings. We do not have to let the outside world affect our inner peace. Practicing meditation helps achieve this inner peace then we realize we do not need all they are selling.

The footpath was made for walking.

They are selling and we are buying it, if you do not need it do not buy it, your time is more valuable.

Advertising clutters every city street on every available space tempting us to buy.

Be happy in your work.

Nature Lover.

When I refer to nature I am referring to the world and its natural occurring phenomena together with all the physical laws that govern them. Nature is the qualities found in all things. When we experience nature uninfluenced by civilization it is a truly spiritual encounter. To take the time to quietly study nature’s wondrous achievements is uplifting. To have no time to appreciate nature is to miss life’s greatest free gifts.

Garden Poppy.

To ignore nature’s beauty is to insult the creator, who or whatever you believe the creator to be. Pantheists hold the view that nature and God are identical; we will not get sidetracked discussing these issues. The wonders and beauty of nature can fill volumes, I will only touch on a few interesting attributes of nature.

Trees have bark patterns.

No human artist can surpass nature’s beauty and perfection in any medium.   The joy of natures patterns both abstract and real are beyond mans capabilities. There are also the cyclic patterns of day and night, the phases of the moon, the seasons. The orbits of the stars and planets all precisely coordinated in the vastness of space and time, without a fraction of error.  Allowing plants to grow and animals to live, making our existence possible.

Blossom

There are spatial patterns working to beautiful numerical patterns often to a Fibonacci series of nembers. Fibonacci numbers are formed by adding the two previous numbers to make the next in the series eg. 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21… What often looks random in nature on closer inspection is a pattern some are obvious others are not so easily seen because of distortions from accidental interference.

Branching trees like rivers do.

By studying nature’s patterns it is obvious how our world, our fellow creatures and our selves are all interconnected and interdependent. There is a chain of circumstances, if one link is damaged it weakens the whole chain. We are becoming aware of the effects of interfering with natures balance.

Blossom.

The industrial age dominated by a capitalist system gave birth to the throwaway society and the breakdown of family life. While our economic system is based on production and profit rather than conserving and making things that last, we cannot stop the damage. We are encouraged by advertising to buy things we do not need and in many cases we cannot afford. This forms a vicious circle to work harder, to produce more to earn money to buy more things to complicate our life. If you watch T.V. pick your programs carefully and mute the advertisings.

Let us get back a little closer to nature. Take a break find a quiet place in a park where the birds still sing. Just sit a while and enjoy making shapes out of the clouds. Get up early not to go to work but to watch the sun rise. Stay up late not to party but to walk beneath the stars. Slow down take a deep breath and enjoy nature. Take off your shoes earth out, on a sandy beach or paddle in a puddle.

Sorry the puddle is dry.

You have the time if you dispose of that T.V. and are then not tempted by those rude T.V. commercials. I say rude because they interrupt a program you are watching to sell things. Come on live your life; you are missing out on life, watching some actor live a fantasy life for you. You can starve to death watching an actor eat for you.

Something nice caught my eye.
