Beauty in Meditation.
Stilling the mind is the whole purpose of meditation.
When the mind is tranquil the whole universe surrenders.
Take a deep breath, set aside your stress and discomfort and focus only on good.
You can find some quality of beauty and goodness or some redeeming feature in all situations by taking a moment to look for its merit.
You can shift your awareness in this way and change your attitude by looking for the excellence in all situations.
When you rush breathlessly from one moment to the next anticipating another problem or hungering for another pleasure, you miss the beauty and the nearness of the present, which is constantly unfolding before you.
Meditation teaches you to take the necessary time to be conscious of the present moment, aware of each moment as it comes – the sound of traffic, the smell of mowed grass, the laughter of a child, the worried look on a shopper’s face, the coming and going of your own breath.
In fact, as meditation traditions remind us, only the present moment exists anyway – past is a memory and the future is a fantasy on the movie screen of our mind.
Savor what you are doing, when you eat, enjoy the appearance, smell the aroma, taste the flavor, feel the texture and appreciate. Be aware of those without enough food and you will be thankful. Where food is scarce the starved can be excused for hasty eating.
By regularly practicing following the breath meditation the static like thoughts, that disturb clear thinking, can in time be controlled. Making it possible to fully focus our attention on any activity we are engaged in, free of distraction from an over excited mind. It becomes possible to be mindful of our thoughts and fully engage in the present. To be fully mindful is to be fully alive in the now. The past is set in concrete the future a vision in the mind. All we have control of is now.
Peace is not the serenity found in an idyllic silent, sheltered sanctuary. To be at peace is to be in the midst of noisy activity and life’s turmoil and remain calm. Making meditation a daily practice will bring about peace in your mind and all you encounter will be beautifully enhanced.
