Life is a jewel with many facets, we need to look to see its beauty or we miss the sparkle radiating out in a rainbow of indescribable beauty. It is appalling that in life many people are blind to natures many wonderful gifts. There are many causes for this blindness to the splendor in our midst.
We trample on the flowers while rushing to fulfill our wants. This impatience causes us to miss the finer aspects of life; leading to stress that can trigger anger. An angry person cannot appreciate the beauty of anything; food has no taste, roses, jasmine or frangipani have no scent to an angry person. Sights and sounds can all go unheeded, incinerated by blind rage. Calm down, become aware of the colour of fruit and vegetables and the patterns they display when cut in half. Do not rush the food you eat savor its smell, texture and taste the delight of a meal goes unnoticed to a person in a hurry.
When we rush we miss the beauty and wonder of now. The future you are anticipating may be a disappointment, or never happen, and your life has passed without you knowing. When you are aware of what you are doing in the present you are alive. Unaware you miss the joy of now, dreaming or hurrying to what you want in the future. Too much haste causes mistakes and accidents happen. Sometimes the destination we are hurrying to is a letdown. It is in the sights and experiences along the way that happiness is found.
Technology has advanced faster than man can adapt. Two hundred years is not long enough for our bodies to evolve from muscle power to machine power. We have become slaves to our own inventions. We work to purchase things thinking they will save us time and effort when in reality we lose far more than we gain. Work should not be drudgery and toil to buy shiny toys, that need care and maintenance and never give lasting happiness. There is a down side to all our possessions, they deteriorate and we soon lose interest in them and want something else.
All the wonderful inventions can be a great benefit to making life easier. The problem is we are not using these inventions sensibly; the benefits are being wasted. When we are not satisfied with a fair share and want far more than our needs. It is our vanity that makes us want huge spacious houses and because our clothes are not the latest fashion we replace them. It is lack of restraint that we eat more than our body requires and we pay the price for all the mindless things we do. All the waste we are creating is having an effect on the balance of nature. Fighting among ourselves has adverse affects on nature; any war is also declaring war on nature.
Life can sparkle; life can shine if we are mindful of nature’s wondrous gifts. To put costly man-made things before the free unsurpassable amazing gifts of nature is foolish ignorance. Stop, take a deep breath of fresh air and realize your life depends on this air. Take a drink of pure water and understand you cannot live without it. You also need food and shelter, we also need love, everything else is not all that important. If we are aware, there are wondrous things provided by nature to amuse and entertain us. As for kindness, love and respect, what you give you will receive, if you are respectable you will get respect, if you are trustworthy you will be trusted.
There is a treasure chest full of gems for anyone that has the key. The key is simply have time to appreciating the so-called simple things in life. Like the changing moody sky, not only in all its obvious glory, when the clouds are lit by sunlight. Taking time to really taste and actually enjoy your food. Sharing and helping someone in need without a thought of reward. A smile conveying friendship or a feeling of shared enjoyment. The treasure spills out for all to share, as one family. This is the many facet jewel found when we relax and are in harmony with the world.
